Don't Waste A Credit
Revisado: 05-28-15
This was a so-so story with an average performance by the narrator. The story didn't seem to have much depth or character development. I chose it because I wanted to immerse myself in the Italian countryside, but the location descriptions were also very superficial. Perhaps, by consuming the whole series, more could be gleaned, but there wasn't enough in this first book to inspire me to go on.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Opened the Ocean in My Heart
Revisado: 03-19-15
Neil Gaiman is a master storyteller, and this book is no exception. I almost didn't choose this audiobook, because it was much shorter than I like, but, in retrospect, I found the story much richer than most books twice or three times the size! Thank you, Neil, for another wonderful and heart-opening adventure.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Engaging Murder Mystery
Revisado: 03-12-15
The unfolding story from the perspective of three characters was a nice change. Paul Hawkins is a great writer and I look forward to her future offerings. The narration was spot on as well, so I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

More Relevant Today Than Ever
Revisado: 02-27-15
Not sure what I can say about this book that hasn't already been said. Classic example of political movements and how propaganda and mass surveillance is used to keep a population fearful and subservient.

Historia
Ever since 9/11 America has fought an endless war on terror, seeking enemies everywhere and never promising peace. In Pay Any Price, James Risen reveals an extraordinary litany of the hidden costs of that war: from squandered and stolen dollars, to outrageous abuses of power, to wars on normalcy, decency, and truth. In the name of fighting terrorism, our government has done things every bit as shameful as its historic wartime abuses - and until this audiobook, it has worked very hard to cover them up.

If You're Not Outraged...
Revisado: 12-31-14
Great book! Heartbreaking to learn that the Obama administration has been every bit as responsible as Bush/Cheney for attacks on the rights and liberties of the American people. Also shocking to hear how American foreign policy is provoking and advocating war and terrorism worldwide—all in the name of profit and political power.

Narrator spoiled it for me
Revisado: 12-15-13
I was really looking forward to getting into the Aurelio Zen series, but after a couple of hours I couldn't stand to listen Michael Kitchen any longer. The reading pace was too fast for me, and there was an arrogant or simply disengaged edge to his reading quality. I'm surprised at all the positive rating for the audiobook. If you aren't irritated by the narration, this seems like an interesting story.

There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....

A Story That Only A Hipster Could Love!
Revisado: 12-14-12
Awesome book. Maybe the best books I've listened to all year. I was pleasantly surprised at both the quality of the writing and the near-perfect match of a narrator. Choosing this book was a complete shot in the dark, and I feel like I really lucked out.
I found myself completely engrossed in the story and loving all the current-day references to companies and technology woven into the fantasy. I'd love to read more my Robin Sloan - he has a whimsical and engaging style of writing that I found entirely refreshing and fun.

Historia
A British copywriter stays for a week at his composer friend Oskar’s elegant, ultramodern apartment in a glum Eastern European city. The instructions are simple: feed the cats, don’t touch the piano, and make sure nothing harms the priceless wooden floors. Content for the first time in ages, he accidentally spills some wine. Over the course of a week, both the apartment and the narrator’s sanity fall apart in this original and “weirdly addictive” ( Daily Mail) novel.

Much Ado About Very Little
Revisado: 12-14-12
What disappointed you about Care of Wooden Floors?
Will Wiles seems like an exceptional writer, if only he had used those skills to write about something of interest.
Would you ever listen to anything by Will Wiles again?
I'd love to read a mystery or thriller written by him - something with some content to sink my teeth into.
Did Michael Page do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Michael Page did an excellent job narrating, but it seems like his skills were entirely wasted on this story.
What character would you cut from Care of Wooden Floors?
Not sure I would cut characters, but I would have explored the main characters dark side in my more depth.
Any additional comments?
If I hadn't been traveling and unable to shop for another audiobook, I never would have completed this one. About hal-way through, the book did get a little more interesting, I think that the author could have done a lot more and made this an amazing murder mystery.

Revisado: 08-06-11
This is one of the best books I've read (or heard) in quite a long time. Between the brilliant story-line and Robin Sachs' wonderful narration, this audio book offered an incredibly engaging and sensually rich experience. As soon as I finished the story, I began searching for more books on Audible by Glen Duncan, but, alas, this was the only one. I may have to actually pick up a paperback to get another juicy dose of Glen's writing.

They delight and challenge their customers and peers. They love their work, pour their best selves into it, and turn each day into a kind of art. Best Godin Book Ever!!
Revisado: 07-08-10
I've been a fan of Seth Godin for a number of years now, and I'd have to say that this is by far his best book yet. I wish everyone would read this book -- especially every person who has anything to do with shaping our education system in this country. Everyone who runs for office, or already holds a government post, should have to read and comment on this book. You want to know why our economy is in the toilet -- and will continue to be so unless we radically change our way of thinking -- READ THIS BOOK!!!
