Historia
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde grew out of a horrifying nightmare Robert Louis Stevenson had one night in Bournemouth, England, in 1886. "The Yellow Wallpaper" sprang from a catastrophic nervous breakdown Charlotte Perkins Gilman had six years later on the other side of the Atlantic following the birth of her daughter. Now these two haunting, iconic tales are brought together for the first time in this powerful classic audio exploration of madness and the duality of the human soul.

A Top Notch production of two great classics
Revisado: 06-09-18
I've come to expect something different and thought provoking from Alison Larkin Presents classics and I got it again here. I first listened to Derek Perkins and Alison Larkin narrate A Christmas Carol and The Night Before Christmas. It was accompanied by commentary written by Larkin, who is also a novelist, about both books. She does the same here and her commentary is then followed by Charlotte Perkins Gilman's article about why she wrote the Yellow Wallpaper which is fascinating. I was also very interested in the story behind Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Both performances as superb. I love the way neither narrator every goes too far. The tension is kept beneath the surface and is all the more chilling for it. Both narrators really understand the text and the nuances and that makes allllll the difference.

WONDERFUL!

I love this audio book. It's poignant and funny and true and you can't stop listening. I fell in love with Pippa Dunn from the beginning and was rooting for her as she found her roots and herself. I laughed out loud at the cultural comments - the differences between England and America. Plus the interview at the end is fascinating. This book is a wonderful, wonderful listen. No wonder it won so many awards.

Brilliant and th additional material is hilarious!
Revisado: 06-09-18
I love Alison Larkin's Austen recordings. They are second to none and I was so happy to see Mansfield Park and Emma paired together in one package. This is a very special, high quality audiobook with fascinating, hilarious additional material! I am an Austen aficionado - a paid up member of the Jane Austen society of North America and a huge, huge, HUGE fan of Alison Larkin's Jane Austen recordings. Having these two books together in one place was a gift. I've always thought Mansfield Park is under rated and Larkin's reading confirms that. It's my favorite of Austen's novels actually - but then I love Emma too - and P&P and S&S of course - oh goodness. I'm just going to have to listen to them all again! Well done Audible for discovering this great narrator. This audiobook is a real treat!

Totally authentic, delightful narration
Revisado: 04-20-17
What made the experience of listening to Mysterious Affair at Styles, with a Bonus Interview! the most enjoyable?
James Warwick, is superb - he does about fifty characters and sounds like you imagine Hastings would sound - and also the interview at the end between James Warwick and Alison Larkin is fantastic.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes! It's an exciting story!
Which character – as performed by James Warwick – was your favorite?
Hastings I think. He is the narrator of the story and it's like it's really him talking.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Hercule Poirot - The Beginning.
Any additional comments?
It's so good. I also really loved Alison Larkin's narration of The Secret Adversary also and as James Warwick starred in the t.v. version of The Secret Adversary with Francesca Annis it was such a treat to hear them talking at the end. Just wonderful entertainment.

Historia
TV star James Warwick and award-winning narrator/comedienne Alison Larkin star in this accessible, dazzlingly funny two-actor production of The Importance of Being Earnest--a trivial comedy for serious people. We're in England in 1895. Algy and Jack are debonair bachelors-about-town who plan to court Gwendolen and Cecily, despite opposition from the formidable Lady Bracknell.

Effervescent! Brilliant performances! DELIGHTFUL!
Revisado: 04-19-17
What made the experience of listening to The Importance of Being Earnest the most enjoyable?
I think the fact that though there are only two actors playing all the parts it sounds like an entire cast and it's so so so so funny!
What other book might you compare The Importance of Being Earnest to and why?
I saw James Warwick in The Ideal Husband on Broadway and was so excited to discover this fantastic audio production of The Importance of Being Earnest! I'd compare it to any other Oscar Wilde play - and also to Agatha Christie's work, which both Alison Larkin and James Warwick have narrated - Larkin narrates The Secret Adversary and Warwick narrates The Mysterious Affair at Styles which is the first Hercule Poirot.
What about Alison Larkin and James Warwick ’s performance did you like?
Both know how to do comedy. Straight. For real. Lightly. It's impossible to pick just one thing - these are, quite simply, authentic, brilliant performances.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes! The end when Jack finds out who he really is!
Any additional comments?
A great classic performed by two comedic actors at the top of their game. A must-listen for fans of Oscar Wilde.
