Historia
George Orwell's classic satire of the Russian Revolution is an intimate part of our contemporary culture, quoted so often that we tend to forget who wrote the original words! This must-read is also a must-listen!

Wow!

This book was excellent. The way it tells the story of the man in power or should I say pigs in power is disturbing and yet it happen in the past and it is still happening.

Una historia excelente
Revisado: 01-29-15

Historia
As the novel opens, Artemio Cruz, the all-powerful newspaper magnate and land baron, lies confined to his bed and, in dreamlike flashes, recalls the pivotal episodes of his life. Carlos Fuentes manipulates the ensuing kaleidoscope of images with dazzling inventiveness, layering memory upon memory, from Cruz’s heroic campaigns during the Mexican Revolution, through his relentless climb from poverty to wealth, to his uneasy death. Perhaps Fuentes’ masterpiece, The Death of Artemio Cruz is a haunting voyage into the soul of modern Mexico.

An amazing book!
Revisado: 08-07-14
If you could sum up The Death of Artemio Cruz in three words, what would they be?
"Live in your days with your eyes close" more than three, but I love those words.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Death of Artemio Cruz?
the imaginary relationship with Regina, he truly loved her. or he thought so.
Which character – as performed by Tony Chiroldes – was your favorite?
I could see my father through Artemio. so I really like Artemio.
If you could rename The Death of Artemio Cruz, what would you call it?
Life is what we make of it. Artemio lived with what life gave him and made what best he could with it.
Any additional comments?
this book is so amazing. I love every minute of it. the narrator was superb. I could feel everything as Artemio did. one of the best book in a while.

Historia
Neglected by her parents, 19-year-old Maya Nidal has grown up in Berkeley with her grandparents. Her grandmother Nini is a force of nature, a woman whose formidable strength helped her build a new life after emigrating from Chile in 1973. Popo, Maya's grandfather, is a gentle man whose solid, comforting presence helps calm the turbulence of Maya's adolescence. When Popo dies of cancer, Maya goes completely off the rails, turning to drugs, alcohol, and petty crime in a downward spiral that eventually bottoms out in Las Vegas.

very predictable
Revisado: 06-10-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
it was ok, not well spend.
Would you be willing to try another book from Isabel Allende? Why or why not?
yes, she is a good story teller.
What three words best describe Maria Cabezas’s performance?
neither like or dislike her voice.
Was Maya's Notebook worth the listening time?
I just say, that I just had to finished what I started.
Any additional comments?
the story was very predictable, I knew what was going to happen way before, and that is not good. I knew from the beginning who was who and what have they done. I like Isabel Allende's books, but this one was not the best.
