Historia
It's 1885, and all Nora Shipley wants, now that she's graduating from Cornell University as valedictorian of the entomology program, is to follow in her late father's footsteps by getting her master's degree and taking over the scientific journal he started. The only way to uphold her father's legacy is to win a scholarship, so she joins a research expedition in Kodaikanal, India, to prove herself in the field. India isn't what she expects, though, and neither is the rival classmate who accompanies her, Owen Epps.

The story itself was good but the over the top narration grated on my nerves.

I am not a prude but too graphic in details like he tasted of coffee and sweat. Ugh. Story line was good but I don’t like when there is no ending unless you buy the next book.

Hope filled
Revisado: 03-13-23
A great series of faith, love and hope. These books challenge my walk as a believer in Jesus. These aren’t perfect people but growing people. I wish all of the books were recorded, but alas, it looks like I will have to switch to DVD’s.

Historia
One halo brought sight to Brielle. Another offers sweet relief from what she sees. Brielle can't help but see the Celestial. Even without the halo, the invisible realm is everywhere she looks. It's impossibly beautiful - and terrifying, especially now. Because a battle rages above Stratus, Oregon. The Terrestrial Veil is ripping, and demons walk the streets past unseeing mortals. Dark, sticky fear drips from every face, and nightmares haunt Brielle's sleep. Worst of all, Jake is gone. The only boy she's ever loved has been taken by the demon, Damien.

Why would an author switch narrators in a series.? Bad idea. Plus this narration was over the top, making me cringe at times. Did not enjoy.

Historia
Along with his volunteer work at the local fire department, running his Amish farm keeps Jamie Riehl busy. He barely has time to eat at the family table, never mind find someone to date. But when he meets Kayla Dienner, he is smitten. Kayla tries hard to deny her attraction to Jamie. After all, she's spent the last year discouraging her younger brother, Nathan, from becoming a firefighter. The death of their older brother in a fire a year ago is fresh in her mind - she can't bear the idea of putting her heart on the line every time the sirens blare.

Way too long!
Revisado: 06-04-19
I had to really work to get through this book. It was the same problem being addressed over and over and it should have been shortened by two to three hours. I also did not care for the reader of the book. In the beginning everyone sounded annoyed with each other plus the breaks in how she read the sentences were not natural.

The story was very well written and thought provoking. I listen to a lot of Audible books as I work gardening and this narration was superb. I highly recommend this book.

For those who are afraid to grow community
Revisado: 07-13-16
This is a very inspiring book about "big love" as Kara puts it. About growing community amidst doubts, fears and incompetence. About not having all the answers. We were created to be relational and yet so many of us do not have those deep relational needs met in our churches. This book written about how a community of "big love" came about through the suffering of one person will encourage you to want what God gave them as each person took that step forward to be used to God's glory. There are many, many examples and ideas in the book of how to support and help someone who is suffering. Ideas that would help someone like myself, who is often unsure of what to do, to take a step forward and show up. I would highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially those who have a loved one going through a hard trial and also, yes, also those who are going through the trial. Because it is also about how to suffer well and let people in allowing God to build community through your hard. The only draw back was I do wish they had done the audio with different voices for Jill and Kara. There were a few times I was confused as to which of the two was writing. If they had I would have given it a straight up 5 stars. Even so it is a book I will listen to again when the next need arises amongst my friends and acquaintances.
