Historia
In 1945, US intelligence officers in Manila discovered that the Japanese had hidden large quantities of gold bullion and other looted treasure in the Philippines. President Truman decided to recover the gold but to keep its riches secret. These, combined with Japanese treasure recovered during the US occupation, and with recovered Nazi loot, would create a worldwide American political action fund to fight communism.

Should be in every school America
Revisado: 09-06-23
Incredible story of virtue in our fighting men and greed in the leaders! This should be used as curriculum in every history class in America where most of us learn nothing. Nothing real. Nothing truthful. Nothing significant. In contrast, this book is filled with well documented explosive history.

Historia
If anyone could be considered a Russian counterpart to the infamous British double-agent Kim Philby, it was Oleg Gordievsky. The son of two KGB agents and the product of the best Soviet institutions, the savvy, sophisticated Gordievsky grew to see his nation's communism as both criminal and philistine. He took his first posting for Russian intelligence in 1968 and eventually became the Soviet Union's top man in London, but from 1973 on he was secretly working for MI6.

Great research and compilation
Revisado: 05-21-22
Everyone should read this book. It reveals all of the problems with these secret organizations which practice covertly from decades to decades. Even the President is not privy as they seek to work around him. Plausible deniability is their credence! They kill their own, they contract killings on other people and this will show the clear connection to LBJ and the CIA as co-conspirators in having JFK killed and the massive coverup for a half a century.

From best-selling author John U. Bacon, a gripping narrative history of the largest manmade detonation prior to Hiroshima. On Monday, December 3, 1917, the French freighter SS Mont-Blanc set sail from Brooklyn carrying the largest cache of explosives ever loaded onto a ship, including 2,300 tons of picric acid, an unstable, poisonous chemical more powerful than TNT.

History tells a forgotten story
Revisado: 06-14-21
This is a fantastic presentation of a rarely discussed WWI catastrophe in Halifax. There’s so much valuable history weaved within this book that it should be required reading for every high schooler.
And to this time, every year, a perfect Christmas tree is donated and brought down to Boston from Nova Scotia to thank Bostonians for sending help to Halifax following the great explosion in 1917.
I have listened to it twice as there is so much to assimilate.

Revisado: 04-24-21
Leon Uris is a master at weaving stories about fictional relationships with true stories about history. His depth of research before writing these historical fiction books is incredible. We are so glad that he has done that for us. I read this book 30 years ago but decided to listen to it on audible. I could not be happier. The narrator was fantastic!!! The best narrator i have heard yet. Thank you.

Historia
The worst hard-rock mining disaster in American history began a half hour before midnight on June 8, 1917, when fire broke out in the North Butte Mining Company's Granite Mountain shaft. Sparked more than 2,000 feet below ground, the fire spewed flames, smoke, and poisonous gas through a labyrinth of underground tunnels. Within an hour more than 400 men would be locked in a battle to survive. Within three days 164 of them would be dead.
