Historia
"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Historia
Years ago, yellow fever gripped the small lakeside town of Prosper, Arkansas. At the height of that summer swelter, in the wake of an unexpected storm, the dam failed and the valley flooded—drowning the town and everyone trapped inside. The secrets of old Prosper drowned with them. Now, decades later, when a mysterious locked box is pulled from the depths of the lake, three descendants of that long-ago tragedy are hurled into another feverish summer.

Couldn't finish this book.
Revisado: 07-03-23
I just couldn't get into this book. The narrator didn't distinguish between character voices, so listening to the story and following who was talking was nearly impossible. I was able to get about 10 chapters in, and I knew nothing about any of the main characters (of which there are at least 3), and it seemed to be continuing in that same vein. The characters are uninteresting and their stories are hard to follow. I wouldn't suggest this book at all.

Historia
Summer 1958. A gruesome killer plagues the Midwest, leaving behind a trail of bodies completely drained of blood. Michael Jensen, an aspiring journalist whose father happens to be the town sheriff, never imagined that the Bloodless Murders would come to his backyard. Not until the night the Carlson family was found murdered in their home. Marie Catherine Hale, a diminutive 15-year-old, was discovered at the scene — covered in blood. She is the sole suspect in custody.

Good, but the ending isn't great.
Revisado: 04-20-23
Loved the plot of the book, but it doesn't really give answers at the end. The narrator keeps a great pace, but it is hard to tell who is talking sometimes. I loved the writing style of the author and will look for other books by them.

Historia
Fascinated by our pervasive terror of dead bodies, mortician Caitlin Doughty set out to discover how other cultures care for their dead. In rural Indonesia, she observes a man clean and dress his grandfather's mummified body. Grandpa's mummy has lived in the family home for two years, where the family has maintained a warm and respectful relationship. She meets Bolivian natitas (cigarette-smoking, wish-granting human skulls) and introduces us to a Japanese kotsuage.
