Historia
A rude tourist dies after eating his way up and down the boardwalk, and all eyes fall on Allison, as the police blame her new macarons. The macarons have a secret ingredient that is so delicious it has customers lining up and down the boardwalk - but they are not, she knows, the cause of death. Allison, forced to clear her name and salvage her customers, has no choice but to retrace the victim’s foodie trek up and down the boardwalk, and to figure out what he ate - or who he insulted - that could have gotten him killed.

Poor narrator
Revisado: 04-11-21
There are two books in the series so far and I have read both. The narrator irritated me from the first moment when she couldn't properly pronounce "macaron" and the mispronunciations are sprinkled throughout the book. I find myself repeating phrases with the stress appropriate to the intended meaning of a phrase. As for the book itself, I found the protagonist's way of jumping to conclusions without thinking things through difficult to listen to and will most likely not continue with this series.

Historia
Northern New Jersey has a new local hero on its cultural crime turf. He's Andy Carpenter, the Paterson defense attorney who can sling a quip as fast as he can outmaneuver a snarling prosecutor. Acclaimed author David Rosenfelt's first novel was nominated for an Edgar Award. Now, in this new novel, the intrepid lawyer is thrust into the spotlight where he risks becoming a media victim...of the most fatal kind.

Music is tedious
Revisado: 10-14-19
I have been greatly enjoying this series of audiobooks. I am, however greatly disappointed in the abridged versions. The interval music seemed excessively long and tedious; I'd rather have more words, no music. I am happy to realize that only a couple of the books are abridged. Rosenfelt's writing and character development makes an unabridged version both desirable and seemingly necessary—I want all of the details.

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Not a review
Revisado: 10-10-19
This is not a review. I haven't read the book yet but can't get rid of the stars (which happened accidentally on my phone) in an obvious way. PLEASE zero the stars on this book and make it easier for me to do it. Thanks!

Historia
Of all the things we know about the universe, what do we really know about the nature of space? For example, is there a beyond space? Can space exist in the absence of matter? Though it may seem like a dumb question - 'where' does space come from? This essay takes a look at what some scientists have to say on this issue; the work also contains many references on the topic of spacetime and relativity, which should be useful to physics students.

Irritating narrator
Revisado: 07-21-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would get a different narrator who could pronounce 'nucleus' correctly, along with some other scientific/mathematical words. The narration was slow and she sounded bored.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dark matter :)
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Harley Reese?
Not sure, but there has to be someone with experience narrating scientific literature.
Was Space worth the listening time?
Yes
Any additional comments?
It is obviously the opinion of the author, but interesting nonetheless. Not really a book for someone who has no understanding of the subject matter.

Historia
Theodosia Browning has never considered herself a wine connoisseur - tea has always been her forte. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to pass up an invitation to a fancy wine-tasting party at the upscale Knighthall Winery, just outside of Charleston, South Carolina. But a sweet evening takes on a bitter aftertaste when a dead body is discovered in one of the wine barrels. The son of proprietor Jordan Knight has been murdered.

Southern book needs a better narrator
Revisado: 03-31-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would choose a narrator who, if choosing to do voices, does geographically relevant accents. This takes place in the South; the sensibility of the entire book is southern & the narrator's voice did not match. Generally, I like a quicker reading speed, which was present here; unfortunately, slightly slower might have suited the Southern ambiance. Very disappointed.
Would you be willing to try another book from Laura Childs? Why or why not?
I've read all of Laura's books & enjoyed them - I don't jump on them quite as quickly any more, though, because they aren't catching me emotionally any more. It is possible that part of my problem with the narrator stemmed from the writing, too.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Barbara McCulloh?
Not sure - my favorite narrator is Barbara Rosenblatt, but I think her voice would not be suitable. The voice needs to have a cultured Charleston SC accent - not too old, not too young, & yet be able to do the other voices, too.
Was Steeped in Evil worth the listening time?
Yes, although I think it might have been better to read it in book form.

Historia
Honoring the wish of her late grandmother, Maura Donovan visits the small Irish village where her Gran was born-though she never expected to get bogged down in a murder mystery. Nor had she planned to take a job in one of the local pubs, but she finds herself excited to get to know the people who knew her Gran. In the pub, she's swamped with drink orders as everyone in town gathers to talk about the recent discovery of a nearly 100-year-old body in a nearby bog.

Interesting story, so-so narration.
Revisado: 03-09-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would like a different narrator.
Would you be willing to try another one of Amy Rubinate’s performances?
I'm listening to the second book in the series but I would still prefer a different voice. Will avoid her in the future.
Was Buried in a Bog worth the listening time?
The pacing of the narration is good. I think it could be moved to 1.25x without affecting the quality/clarity too much.
Any additional comments?
Amy's voice is what I think of as contemporary, a little breathy, accents not consistent, with a quality I find irritating. Sometimes, too, the narration strikes me as unreal, the emphasis in strange places.
