Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Rachel Maddow’s ability of storytelling is masterful. A warning for us all that fascism is still with us but we have the tools to combat it.

Historia
Once described by The Washington Post as "the most interesting mayor you've never heard of", Pete Buttigieg, the 36-year-old Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has improbably emerged as one of the nation's most visionary politicians. First elected in 2011, Buttigieg left a successful business career to move back to his hometown, previously tagged by Newsweek as a "dying city", and transformed it into a shining model of urban reinvention.

This was a thoughtful book about values. Mayor Pete understands how to talk about values. He deserves a closer look. Democrats pay attention.

Heartbreaking and Joyous
Revisado: 01-10-19
I selected this title because I had listened to other books by Silvera and narrated by Crouch. The story was quite compelling even with the looming and heartbreaking sadness I felt for the characters. The last day narrative is something I don't think we talk about enough and it was refreshing as it was morbid.

This book reminded me of what it could have been like if I had grown up in a household that wasn't accepting and affirming. It reminds me that there is still work to be done and the need to protect LGBTQ Youth form mental and physical abuse. Michael Crouch is an excellent narrator.

Historia
In August of 2014, 29-year-old activist DeRay Mckesson stood with hundreds of others on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, to push a message of justice and accountability. These protests, and others like them in cities across the country, resulted in the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement. Now, in his first book, Mckesson lays out the intellectual, pragmatic political framework for a new liberation movement. Continuing a conversation about activism and justice that embraces our nation's complex history, he dissects how deliberate oppression persists, and much more....

The Clarity of Social Justice
Revisado: 09-12-18
DeRay McKesson in many ways has become a symbol of the Black Lives Matter and Social Justice movement. On the Other Side of Freedom is written with clarity of perspective. It offers food for thought for those who may be ready to join the fight for social justice. The essays were brilliantly woven together that offered both insights into protests and letting the reader get to know McKesson on a deeper level.

Historia
Konrad Platt needs to get out of town. Heartbroken after his boyfriend leaves him for another man, Konrad abandons his life in London for the warm sun and blue surf of LA. He occupies a refined world of hard abs, VIP parties, and designer drugs that’s constantly, endlessly documented on social media. You know him from your various feeds - sunkissed, gym-ripped, and always having a better time than you. Or is he? North Morgan spins a story in brutal, addictive prose of excess and love that’s like nothing you’ve ever heard.

Revisado: 06-06-18
I just happened to read a brief review of this novel in Out Magazine and decided to give it a try. If you have read the description you will get the gist of the story. It is an interesting look at a particular brand of gay male culture. The performance was ok and the story was ok. Although I think this book attempts to force the reader into having sympathy for the brand of white gays this book is about and I think that is a little weird Overall, it was a nice little break away from my usual Audible selections.

Historia
Recent years have seen a revival of the heated culture wars of the 1990s, but this time its battleground is the Internet. On one side the alt-right ranges from the once obscure neo-reactionary and white separatist movements, to geeky subcultures like 4chan, to more mainstream manifestations such as the Trump-supporting gay libertarian Milo Yiannopolous. On the other side, struggle sessions and virtue signaling lurk behind a therapeutic language of trigger warnings and safe spaces. The feminist side of the online culture wars has its equally geeky subcultures.

Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.
