Historia
In White Fragility, Robin DiAngelo explained how racism is a system into which all White people are socialized and challenged the belief that racism is a simple matter of good people versus bad. DiAngelo also made a provocative claim: White progressives cause the most daily harm to people of color. In Nice Racism, her follow-up work, she explains how they do so. Drawing on her background as a sociologist and over 25 years working as an anti-racist educator, she picks up where White Fragility left off and moves the conversation forward.

Only read if you’re ready to be an anti-racist
Revisado: 11-25-24
This book was so humbling and illuminating to me as a white woman who had always considered herself “not a racist.” I feel both called out and energized to make the space I occupy more inclusive and anti-racist!

Maureen’s evidence-based suggestions are clear, actionable, and logical. This book was so exciting to study, I bought the physical book to read as I listened! I am so excited to apply these concepts as a nonprofit manager. Learning about the different kinds of biases as they apply to neurodivergence and hiring was particularly illuminating.

Historia
Growing up on the Navajo Indian Reservation, David Crow and his siblings idolized their dad. Tall, strong, smart, and brave, the self-taught Cherokee regaled his family with stories of his World War II feats. But as time passed, David discovered the other side of Thurston Crow, the ex-con with his own code of ethics that justified cruelty, violence, lies - even murder. A shrewd con artist with a genius IQ, Thurston intimidated David with beatings to coerce him into doing his criminal bidding. David's mom, too mentally ill to care for her children, couldn't protect him.

Gutting and vulnerable autobiography!
Revisado: 12-13-20
Not for the faint of heart, and not for those triggered by child trauma/abuse. That being said, it’s an incredible story. The author himself has gone on to do AMAZING things in his field, and in the lives of all he meets. 10/10 would recommend!
