Historia
From Steven Adler, the original drummer for Guns N' Roses, comes My Appetite for Destruction, the inside story of GNR. Offering a different perspective from the bestselling Slash, Adler chronicles his life with the band, and own intense struggle with addiction, as seen on Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab and Sober House.

I Am Torn
Revisado: 04-29-25
This book was very well-written. G ' n R was my most favorite band when I was a teenager. It was very interesting to hear the inside dealings from start to finish from the perspective of someone whose vices cost him everything.
Steven's drug struggles toward the end of the book read a bit tedious, with his time in and out of rehab and his relapses. I didn't really think that took away from the story, as I know it was probably tedious for him and his family while it was going on.
The thing that strikes me throughout this book is Steven's seemingly unending yearning for love and companionship, while also having very questionable relationships and attitudes toward women. (I got nauseous when Steven was describing a particularly heinous night of debauchery with Nikki Sixx.)
Overall, a very good listen and good story. I loved the narrator!

Historia
John Crist wasn’t always recognizable as “the guy from that hilarious video in the grocery store.” Growing up part of a homeschool family of ten in rural Georgia with Mennonite grandparents and a high-school job at Chick-fil-A, he was an unlikely candidate for internet fame. Despite all that, or perhaps because of it, Crist passionately pursued his dream of stand-up comedy. In Delete That, Crist takes responsibility for his actions, offers some reflections on how to do better, and encourages us all to stop capitulating to the fear of “But what will they think?!”

Like Listening to a Friend
Revisado: 03-21-25
I have been watching JBC online for almost 10 years now and I went to one of his live comedy shows. I think he is a very relatable and hilariously transparent person, talking about everything from his failures and shortcomings to his successes and personal growth.
Excellent book!

Amazing That She Survived
Revisado: 09-03-24
I was 21 when Britney came out. Even back then, I felt like she was a sacrificial lamb for her parents. I am so happy that she was able to find the strength to persevere through all those things that were done to her....by her parents, by the media, and by the people in her life that were supposed to have her best interests in mind.

Historia
Millions of people–looking to cheat on their partners–signed up for Ashley Madison in the early 2000s, seeking a private space to share their public desires. The promise of discretion was shattered in the summer of 2015, when anonymous hackers stole the company’s cache of user information and published it worldwide. The result? One of the most shocking data breaches of the internet age. Overnight, millions of unfaithful spouses had their real names, addresses and sexual preferences published online in a searchable database that anyone could browse.

Not Worth the Cheat, Y'all
Revisado: 07-11-24
This was very interesting. I am always amazed at the lengths people will go to fill an emptiness in themselves. All the lying, sneaking, and deception that tears people apart.
I liked how there were separate stories for the different couples. That was good.

Historia
Glamour, danger, liberation: in a Mad Men–era of commercial flight, Pan Am World Airways attracted the kind of young woman who wanted out, and wanted up. Required to have a college education, speak two languages, and possess the political savvy of a Foreign Service officer, a jet-age stewardess serving on iconic Pan Am between 1966 and 1975 also had to be between 5′3" and 5′9", between 105 and 140 pounds, and under 26 years of age at the time of hire.

Very Informative
Revisado: 05-23-24
I love the history of PanAm. This was a very good listen/read and I enjoyed learning more about the experience of the flight attendants from their perspective.
The part about first allowing married flight attendants resulting in PanAm getting calls from husband's complaining about their wives' flight schedules was a hoot.
The last bit of the book I found to be a little preachy, but other than that, an excellent book. I definitely recommend it.
