Historia
After facing war, death, unruly gods, and unmitigated evil, Minalan the Spellmonger is forced to return to Farise, the site of his earliest battles, with the simple assignment to conquer the subtropical city-state and expel the pirates that plague the kingdom’s shipping. Tired of warfare, Minalan embarks on a clandestine campaign to do so, assuming an alias and setting up shop in Farise as a mere Practical Adept as cover for his operation. Recruiting a cadre of talented agents to assist, he reluctantly begins the task of infiltrating and observing Farisian society.

a joy to listen to!
Revisado: 07-23-21
The thousands of 5 star reviews this series has aren't an accident. Set during the Napoleonic wars, it has a very strong "age of sail"/ Master and Commander vibe, but it's also a warm, "human" story. The narrator also does an incredible job, and I can see that I'm going to be stuck buying extra credits for the other books in this series. I just can't wait for my monthly credit to keep listening to this series.

Conrad needs a rest. The universe has other ideas. He had planned the perfect weekend in the English Lake District - tie up some loose ends before spending the night with his girlfriend. Simple. What could possibly go wrong? Everything is the answer. An innocent man is murdered to cover up magickal misdeeds, and before they can draw breath, Conrad and his partner in magickal crime-fighting, Vicky Robson, are on the trail of a mage who hides behind dark magick to kill at a distance.

Squadron Leader Clarke returns!
Revisado: 11-13-20
In a way, this is the second half of "The Thirteenth Witch," but it's a testament to the author's skill that either book is excellent as a stand alone work. They are each complete stories with satisfying endings. In this book, the story picks up with Conrad Clarke having finished his entrance test as it were, and starting as an official member of the King's Watch. We meet up again with Lord Mayor of Moles, Vicky, the Boss, Mina, and others, as Clarke has to deal with new developments in the world of magik. These are great stories in the written form, but Ciaran Saward's voice really brings them alive.

Historia
Conrad Clarke, former RAF pilot and alleged gangster, gets a text – and a visit – from The Allfather. Odin has a challenge for Conrad: Sign up to protect England from wild magick and get a commission in the King’s Watch. All he has to do is find a missing witch. Simple. Conrad never could resist a challenge. Before you can say “Ragnarok”, he’s plunged into a world of gods, mages, witches, dwarves, and one very aggressive giant mole.

A great story becomes even better
Revisado: 11-09-20
This is a great series of books, so I was a bit nervous about whether I'd like the audio version or not, but I need not have worried. As good as the books are, the story becomes even better with the narration. Little bits and pieces of the original story come alive under the effects of Ciaran Saward's voice. I was reading the latest book (Six Furlongs), and could almost hear the text in his voice! I can't wait for the next one!
If you're new to this series, it's a great mystery, with a strong urban fantasy element, and a nice romance thread that surfaces from time to time.

Historia
From the moment Dara of Westwood spied the Silver Headed Raptor nesting in Rundeval Peak, the precocious redheaded 12-year-old girl was enchanted. The youngest daughter of the Master of the Wood lived in ramshackle Westwood Hall, in the independently minded Westwood estate of Sevendor. Her determination to capture a baby falcon and train it wasn’t hampered by the fact that Dara had never climbed a mountain, had never been trained in falconry, or even remotely had permission from her father to do it.

The story and narrator just pull me in!
Revisado: 08-06-19
This is a very impressive reading! The story's good to begin with, but Finty Williams does an incredible job of bringing it to life. I'm getting towards the end of the book, and I find myself pausing the story, because I don't want it to end! I'm definitely adding here to my list of favorite narrators.
Btw, Audible, it would be great if we could "follow" narrators, as well as authors!

Historia
Not since the publication of his own beloved classic Lonesome Dove has there been a novel like this one, another big, brilliant, unputdownable saga of the West from Larry McMurtry. Telegraph Days is at once a major work of literature and a completely absorbing read, not just great fiction, but fiction on a great scale.

Historia
When Wyoming highway patrolman Rosey Wayman is transferred to the beautiful and imposing landscape of the Wind River Canyon, an area the troopers refer to as no-man's-land because of the lack of radio communication, she starts receiving "officer needs assistance" calls. The problem? They're coming from Bobby Womack, a legendary Arapaho patrolman who met a fiery death in the canyon almost a half century ago.

Revisado: 06-02-16
The combination of Craig Johnson's writing and George Guidall's narration creates an incredible listening experience. I also admire Craig Johnson's willingness to let his stories be the length they want to be, rather than adding filler and loops to fit some publishers demands. Both this one and "The Spirit of Steamboat" are complete and satisfying stories, that feel like the perfect length.
