Historia
A family of four murdered in their hotel room. A single mother and her boyfriend both stabbed to death. A sordid history of violent crimes, repeated over and over - but decades apart. Olivia Barker is a therapist with no connection to the murders. But she has heard things. Stories that keep her up at night. Details that only a killer would know. A killer who could be one of her patients…Olivia has no proof for her suspicions. But as the body count rises, so do her fears. A rock is thrown through her window, her car tires are slashed, a chilling message is scrawled on her bathroom mirror.

Historia
It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

I am pretty picky when it comes to a good story but I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the narration ...this book kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time...And unlike a lot of books that have preposterous endings, this was a good end I thought

That's what she says. But when the police arrive at the address she's given them, her story doesn't seem to add up. Her husband is missing, but his phone and wallet are still in the house. She says she's the victim, but what if she's not? What if the stories she's telling aren't her stories at all....

Revisado: 09-20-20
Way too much swearing ...and annoying voices.. story could have been done in half the time.. really just a miserable book... cant imagine why the author thought this might be an enjoyable read for people. And I agree with another reviewer who said the author seems to have a problem with the police they are not all idiots you know!!

Historia
Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in literary history. For the first time since the death of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a new Holmes story has been sanctioned by his estate, whetting the appetites of fans everywhere. Information about the book will be revealed as deliberately as Holmes himself would unravel a knotty case, but bestselling novelist and Holmes expert Anthony Horowitz is sure to bring a compelling, atmospheric story to life.

I thought the author did a great job of bringing Sherlock Holmes to life again... the narration was a great fit for the character Watson... and the story kept me absorbed in it from Portland to NJ and back... well done!

Another winner
Revisado: 10-02-18
Two great listens in a row - the Alice Network and then The Nightingale....both wonderfully narrated, great stories to immerse yourself in, you simply don't want to stop listening. Such stories of bravery and determination. And for both these books, in a world of high stress and difficult political times today, perspective is everything - boy do these books make you remember that we have little to worry about compared to the horrors of war, even though both of these books are fictional.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Listened to it all but disliked it immensely
Revisado: 03-30-18
There is not a single likable character in this book. You really wanted to root for Alice but she was so pathetic and pitiful you just could not.... have some backbone Alice.
For me the ending was a huge disappointment.

To you, perceptive reader, I bequeath my history....Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters. The letters are all addressed to "My dear and unfortunate successor," and they plunge her into a world she never dreamed of-a labyrinth where the secrets of her father's past and her mother's mysterious fate connect to an inconceivable evil hidden in the depths of history.

Interesting story but didn't hold my interest
Revisado: 08-31-15
What did you like best about The Historian? What did you like least?
Had a few interesting twists and I did not expect it to be about Count Dracula, so it was different for a change
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
the story told from the different parties
What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?
The father (Paul) was totally not a good fit to be the narrator. It was obvious that he was reading, so difficult to lose yourself in the story, and he was far too effeminate to be her father....I just couldn't reconcile the narration with his role. Liked all the other narrators though!
Could you see The Historian being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No - it was too drawn out in parts
