Historia
The right idea, invoked at the right time, can change our lives. Drawing from her long studies of happiness, and also from the challenges she’s faced herself, writer Gretchen Rubin has discovered the “Secrets of Adulthood” that can help us manage the complexities of life. To convey her conclusions, she turned to the aphorism—the ancient literary discipline that demands that a writer convey a large truth in a few words.

Insightful!
Revisado: 04-08-25
I love how Rubin neatly organizes all of these aphorisms in one place. She gives the reader space to think about how each might apply to his or her own life. Simply a tidy, useful book of succinct, uncomplicated advice.

Standout Teen Dystopia
Revisado: 03-29-25
Five-star teen dystopia with likeable characters, a fascinating world, and the exact right dose of romance mixed in: everything you could want in this sort of read. Blood of Beasts is a stout meal for the imagination, with something for all five senses. It strikes me as a great series for those who enjoyed The Hunger Games or X-Men (comics/movies). The icing on the cake is that Rebecca Lemke is a superb narrator. The recording is excellent.

He Sings!!!!!!!
Revisado: 04-24-21
I loved this production, even if it is the “only one.” Inglis’s pronunciation, particularly of Tolkien-crafted languages, is clear and beautiful, and he sings many of the passages in verse!

Historia
C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the Inklings met each week to read and discuss each other's work-in-progress, offering both encouragement and blistering critique. How did these conversations shape the books they were writing? How does creative collaboration enhance individual talent? And what can we learn from their example? Bandersnatch offers an inside look at the Inklings of Oxford, and a seat at their table at the Eagle and Child pub.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

Hanks Writes Great Stories with a Clever Concept!
Revisado: 09-03-18
It turns out Tom Hanks is as good a storyteller as he is an actor. He writes and narrates wonderful, evocative tales with a clever common thread running through a very diverse collection of stories--the typewriter is a fun way to tie everything into a cohesive collection.
