Duncan does an amazing job creating not just a world with a rich history but individual characters and an epic rivalry between sorcerers and swordsmen
Read these at the age of 8 and gave them a reread now in my mid-40’s. And now will eagerly read the 4th book

The protagonist is both standard in the best ways and unique in the modern fantasy horror genre
This book was particularly exciting
The storyline introduced some new creatures going bump in the night and expanded our in owl edge on a few others
The ending on this one was a bit sbrupt but looking forward to the reading what happens next!
