Sci-fi thriller
Revisado: 07-15-22
I’m not usually a fan of sci-fi. But this was interesting, and his combination of romance and horror made it nice for escapism. And some of the writing was particularly moving

Writing is unimpressive. Brick narration is fine
Revisado: 05-27-22
If you listen to books as a diversion to your exercise routine this one’s probably fine. It is easy to zone out pleasantly to Scott Brick’s narration. But this author really needs a good editor. They could start by getting rid of the many clichés. Then he might do some research about poker and try to understand what’s in a 52 card deck. If he hadYou cannot have a full house kings over aces and have another player have a full house aces over kings.

Newlyweds Sam Statler and Annie Potter are head over heels, and excited to say good-bye to New York city and start a life together in Sam's sleepy hometown upstate. Or, it turns out, a life where Annie spends most of her time alone while Sam, her therapist husband, works long hours in his downstairs office, tending to the egos of his (mostly female) clientele. Little does Sam know that through a vent in his ceiling, every word of his sessions can be heard from the room upstairs.

Historia
A house demolition provides an unpleasant surprise for Minneapolis - the bodies of two girls, wrapped in plastic. It looks like they've been there a long time. Lucas Davenport knows exactly how long.In 1985, Davenport was a young cop with a reputation for recklessness, and the girls' disappearance was a big deal. His bosses ultimately declared the case closed, but he never agreed with that. Now that he has a chance to investigate it all over again, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: It wasn't just the bodies that were buried. It was the truth.

Nice to get a deeper view of personal backstories
Revisado: 07-23-18
Sometimes you think you know the characters who populate your favorite books, but then you learn the details of remote events which made them the way they are. This was a nice look back at an old case that becomes a new case and also informs us as to early interactions between and among the main characters.

Addictive character makes for an addictive book
Revisado: 09-19-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Thought the main character entirely too strange. He oozed an uncomfortable creepiness.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The main character's need to obsessively control his world.
Which scene was your favorite?
The captive moments in the cage were particularly psychotic.
Was You worth the listening time?
No. It left me feeling uncomfortable.
Any additional comments?
While "Ick" is not a particularly nuanced assessment, that is pretty much the way I'd describe this one.

Too much, too histrionic, too unbelievable
Revisado: 08-13-17
What did you like best about A Criminal Defense? What did you like least?
I generally like legal criminal defense dramas and this one had a reasonable share of interesting procedural details.
If you’ve listened to books by William L. Myers before, how does this one compare?
No I have not.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Man, this guy had two modes to his emotional pitch: slightly hysterical and full-on hysteria.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Nope. The story was overly complicated, excessively convoluted and a sad commentary on the interpersonal relations of the main character.
Any additional comments?
Well, perhaps had I listened to the last 20% of the book I might have had a different opinion, but as I said it was all a bit too much.

Historia
Two words: the bullet. That's all it takes to shatter her life. Caroline Cashion is beautiful, intelligent, a professor of French literature. But in a split second, everything she's known is proved to be a lie. A single bullet, gracefully tapered at one end, is found lodged at the base of her skull. Caroline is stunned. It makes no sense: She has never been shot. She has no entry wound, no scar. Then, over the course of one awful evening, she learns the truth.

“Why is this town called Mother’s Rest?” That’s all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. Exceeded my expections
Revisado: 09-19-15
If you could sum up Make Me in three words, what would they be?
Meets his match
What did you like best about this story?
The flaws and failings of Jack Reacher are better developed than I recall in prior books of the series. There is a pleasant romantic development also. However, the story in no ways suffers any lack of action, murder and mayhem.
What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Handles the assignment well, although I find his vocalization of women pleasantly amusing.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No I like savoring the good ones.
