Historia
On April 6, 1940, explorer and future World War II spy Theodore Morde (who would one day attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler), anxious about the perilous journey that lay ahead of him, struggled to fall asleep at the Paris Hotel in La Ceiba, Honduras. Nearly seventy years later, in the same hotel, acclaimed journalist Christopher S. Stewart wonders what he's gotten himself into.

True adventure
Revisado: 09-06-24
I stumbled across this book with no real idea what it was about but I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the type of book I like to listen to-a good story well told. The idea that some guy from Brooklyn would get the wild idea to go into the jungle in Honduras to retrace the steps of some long lost explorer turned out to be a true adventure. I like the depth of his research and his self reflection along the way. My only suggestion is that “Jungleland” by Springsteen should play periodically throughout the audio book.

Historia
As fires devastate most of the United States, Lark and his family secure a place on a refugee boat headed to Ireland, the last country not yet overrun by extremists and rumored to be accepting American refugees. But Lark is the only one to survive the trip, and once ashore, he doesn’t find the safe haven he’d hoped for. As he runs for his life, Lark finds an abandoned dog who becomes his closest companion, and then a woman in search of her lost son. Together they form a makeshift family and attempt to reach Glendalough, a place they believe will offer protection.

Poignant
Revisado: 09-30-22
This was not the book Silas wanted to write, this was a book he had to right; the themes in this story are so disturbing but so pervasive a writer like Mr House feels duty bound to respond; the sense of anger, disappointment and faint hope that resonates with this story will remain to be issues all must confront; Silas is a modern day master at capturing the mood of a place and time and this book is a powerful piece that was difficult but necessary for him to write

Historia
Trapped in a job he hated and up to his neck in debt, Guy Grieve’s life was going nowhere. But with a stroke of luck, his dream of escaping it all to live in remote Alaska suddenly came true. Miles from the nearest human being and armed with only the most basic equipment, Guy built a log cabin from scratch and began carving a life for himself through fishing, hunting, and diligently avoiding bears. Packed with adventure, humor, and insight, this is the gripping story of an ordinary man learning the ways of the wild.

Good story well told
Revisado: 03-27-21
I’ve been listening to a variety of Alaska books and stumbled across this little gem, the story of a Scott going rouge was more entertaining than expected, I appreciated the respect Guy showed for those folks who helped him do the heavy lifting, the story ends up being a metaphor for stepping away from the toil of the every day work-a-day world as in be careful what you wish for, the advantage of this perspective is the way it makes one re-examine the mundane details of our own story

More recently, Rolling Stone named it the 25th greatest album of all time and the hit TV series Glee devoted an entire episode to songs from Rumours, introducing it to a new generation. Now, for the first time, Ken Caillat, the album's co-producer, tells the full story of what really went into making Rumours.
