Historia
The Lords of Discipline is a novel about coming of age, brotherhood, betrayal, and a man’s forging of his own personal code of honor. Will McLean, a senior on the cadets’ honor court, is an outsider by nature: a basketball star at a school that prizes military prowess above athletics, a military man in training who dares to question the escalating Vietnam war. And yet his greatest struggle will be with the corrupt institution of which he is a part.

Lords of Discipline

I saw the movie when I was younger. Reading this now with more than 20 years of military service was sobering. It’s a shame this work isn’t used more frequently to shine the light on traditions, customs, behaviors, and history which are unjust. Have we gotten any better in any of our institutions? Remains to be seen. Great book. Brutal but great!

Historia
Walking with God through Pain and Suffering is the definitive Christian book on why bad things happen and how we should respond to them. The question of why there is pain and suffering in the world has confounded every generation; yet there has not been a major book from a Christian perspective exploring why they exist for many years.

Unbelievably Real
Revisado: 06-12-24
This story is incredible. Could not put it down. The intrigue from so many different angles blew my mind. That said, I’m saddened but not surprised at the extent of corruption in Putin’s regime and the world - Bill - at least this time, did something about it.

Gene Kranz was present at the creation of America's manned space program and was a key player in it for three decades. As a flight director in NASA's Mission Control, Kranz witnessed firsthand the making of history. He participated in the space program from the early days of the Mercury program to the last Apollo mission, and beyond. He endured the disastrous first years when rockets blew up and the United States seemed to fall further behind the Soviet Union in the space race.

Historia
On his second combat tour, Nick Brokhausen served in Recon Team Habu, CCN. This unit was part of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group), or Studies and Observations Group as it was innocuously called. The small recon companies that were the center of its activities conducted some of the most dangerous missions of the war, infiltrating areas controlled by the North Vietnamese in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The companies never exceeded more than 30 Americans, yet they were the best source for the enemy's disposition.

Great story continued. Bronhausen brings Vietnam alive. MACV SOG stories are a great reminder of the sacrifices of our SOF communities and the indigenous people they serve to liberate from oppression. Only hope our governments can learn from the experiences these men are willing to share.

Regardless how long you’ve walked with Jesus, we all see our brother & sisters, friends & family making other choices. Whether it’s college freedom, hurt feelings, bad experiences, poor parenting, lack of community, pandemics … it’s a reality we all must face … people chose to leave the church for any number of reasons.
How does the bride of Christ continue to minister to them when in or out of a congregation?
Good listen … getting my team on board with it … to open up our apertures.

Historia
It was a split-second operation as delicate and as deadly as a time bomb. It demanded the concentrated devotion and vigilance of more than six hundred men for every hour, every day, and every night for more than a year. With only their bare hands and crude homemade tools, they sank shafts, built underground railroads, forged passports, drew maps, faked weapons, and tailored German clothes.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Drawing on their own cross cultural experience in global mission, O'Brien and Richards show how better self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time, and social mores allow us to see the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.

Not what I would normally read or listen to but the authors grabbed me on this one. There is truth to remaining vigilant in our approaches to reading/interpreting Scripture especially in today’s jacked up culture. Very much worth your while.

War Transformed provides insights for those involved in the design of military strategy, and the forces that must execute that strategy. Emphasizing the impacts of technology, strategic competition, demography, and climate change, Mick Ryan uses historical and contemporary anecdotes to highlight key challenges faced by nations in a new era of great power rivalry. Just as previous industrial revolutions have advanced societies, the nascent fourth industrial revolution will have a similar impact on how humans fight, compete, and build military power in the twenty-first century.

Strategists Unite
Revisado: 05-28-23
This was a welcome perspective of what our military strategists are and should be looking towards as they predict future conflicts. From an Aussie foxhole, Ryan is able to provide some insight on what the Western world might consider in how we engage the Middle East and Far East in future scenarios. Well done, Sir!
