Historia
Every now and then, we come across a novel that moves us like no other, that seems like a miracle of the imagination, and that haunts us long after the book is closed. James Levine’s The Blue Notebook is that kind of book. It is the story of Batuk, an Indian girl who is taken to Mumbai from the countryside and sold into prostitution by her father; the blue notebook is her diary, in which she recalls her early childhood, records her life on the Common Street, and makes up beautiful and fantastic tales.

truth is so painful.......
Revisado: 09-05-09
Like they say....it is not safe in this world to be a young girl. This story of a young Indian girl sold into prostitution is repeated several times daily in every country. This is raw painful truth. Difficult to listen to at times, yet the story is told so incredibly well, as a matter of fact. Highly recommended.

Historia
Aminata Diallo is the beguiling heroine of Lawrence Hill's Someone Knows My Name. In it, Hill exquisitely imagines the tale of an 18th-century woman's life, spanning six decades and three continents. The fascinating story that Hill tells is a work of the soul and the imagination. Aminata is a character who will stir listeners, from her kidnapping from Africa through her journeys back and forth across the ocean.

Great Flavor
Revisado: 10-25-08
What a fantastic book. The narrator's voice gave me the flavor of the African continent. The story was moving and very difficult to take to heart. It's hard to believe that one race could think it had the right to treat another race so inhumanely. It was extremely disturbing at times to read. The characters were well developed and so easy to relate to . What an undaunting strength Mina the main character possessed. Great read.
