Great detective story, but….
Revisado: 01-17-23
I hadn’t read Dorothy Sayers in many years and had forgotten how very impolitic the stories are to both women and POC. Some of the dialog is cringeworthy.

Dirk Pitt is always a good value
Revisado: 06-14-22
I enjoyed listening to this story. Dirk is supremely capable, and self assured, as always. The narration was pleasant. It fits the bill to listen to in segments when I’m driving and sometimes in the shower. I enjoyed it.

Historia
Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, England. It’s the sort of place where doctors and lawyers and old-money academics live. It’s not the sort of place where people get stabbed in the back 30 times with a kitchen knife in their own homes. Someone must have seen something. Newlywed Joey Mullen, for example, recently returned from four years of working in Ibiza. She and her husband, Alfie, are eager to find a place of their own in her hometown. But Joey finds herself distracted by the man next door, Tom Fitzwilliam.

Interesting and a bit surprising.
Revisado: 11-14-19
I enjoyed the book. The setup for the story takes quite a long time and is interesting and well done. The last 10 chapters speed by a bit, but the ending feels satisfying and closed.

I go back and forth between classic tales and mysteries. This book feels like a soon-to-be young adult classic. My test, well written, clean language, believable emotions, and fun to listen to. This book, read by Ms Enteistle, fits the bill completely

Historia
The land outside of the Old City was supposed to be green, lush, hopeful. A place where Alice could finally rest, no longer the plaything of the Rabbit, the pawn of Cheshire, or the prey of the Jabberwocky. But the verdant fields are nothing but ash - and hope is nowhere to be found. Still, Alice and Hatcher are on a mission to find his daughter, a quest they will not forsake even as it takes them deep into the clutches of the mad White Queen and her goblin or into the realm of the twisted and cruel Black King. The pieces are set, and the game has already begun.

Remarkable story

These 2 Alice books are surprisingly satisfying. They are both tales of growth, good, and evil. The voices are well done by the reader. In fact, her voice is one of the reasons I enjoyed both novels so much.

Historia
In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls that echo the screams of the poor souls inside. In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn't remember why she's in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood.
