Historia
Still Learning is India Oxenberg’s intimate, first-person account of how she was lured into and, seven years later, escaped from the NXIVM cult, DOS. As the secret sorority within NXIVM's vast Ponzi network, DOS was created by Keith Raniere and his acolytes to serve as a source of "slaves" to Keith and the other “masters”. Despite the fantastical headlines, the focus of Still Learning reflects what many parents and age peers of India’s will recognize as a far more familiar 20-something conundrum - a new adult trying to discover who she is.

Powerful & Well Written
Revisado: 11-08-20
I downloaded India’s book after watching the series “The Vow,” which documented the downfall of the organization and its leader. What I love about India’s story is that it addresses how one can become so entrenched in such an organization and how, through the support of family and her own intuition, was able to break free. India’s writing is beautiful and thoughtful. I admire her strength and courage to put her experiences down on paper and to tell the world what it was like from her own perspective. Thank you India for putting this out into the world. I wish you the best!

set in America but with British language?
Revisado: 08-06-19
This book is so strangely written. It’s set in America, with an American narrator, but there is a lot of British phrases. So odd. And the main character is pathetic.

There is no premise here. There is no way to connect with this overhyped “love story” to keep me going past chapter 1. Had to return it.

Waste of a credit
Revisado: 04-11-18
This whole book is about a woman fretting over the possibility of someone breaking into her house and stealing her baby. Meanwhile, you’ll find out in the very last chapters, that the whole reason for her fretting has nothing to do with her and there are things happening with the neighbors. This plot is so haphazard I’m shocked someone published this. Will be requesting a refund from Audible. The only reason this was at all “unputdownable” was because I was patiently waiting for something to actually happen. How this book has positive reviews is beyond me. On a separate note, the narrator did a superb job despite the lack of actual story.

Historia
There’s something wrong with this family. Mary Shaw’s the doting mother, showering her children with gifts from the heart and the pocketbook. Wes Shaw’s different than his siblings - darker, awkward, the perpetual ne’er-do-well. The Shaws have survived divorce and death, but something sinister is in their midst. The truth threatens to tear them apart. The lies threaten to tear them apart. There’s no neutral ground, no place to hide. Ultimately, each family member must make a choice with irreversible consequences.

So many issues (and i never write reviews)
Revisado: 11-30-17
Would you try another book from Phil M. Williams and/or the narrators?
Ok so first of all, I never write reviews on here, so you know that I mean business.
Let's start with the narration. The different voices for each family members was a good idea in theory, I'm sure. However, in reality, the voices they picked for Wes' family were just awful. The mother was by far the most annoying narrator.
And the plot. Or lack there of, I should say. I can't figure out why this book was written. Like, what's the takeaway? There is zero climax, and I just kept waiting for something to happen.
AND if you think that's not enough, the book literally skips months at a time but for no reason, just so that different scenarios could happen, like family holidays, etc. HOWEVER, it would be much easier to follow and much more fluid if it was simply written to take place over a much shorter period of time, with flashbacks from each of the characters to build up the story rather than jumping six months at a time.
Warning you so you don't waste a credit.
Would you ever listen to anything by Phil M. Williams again?
Unlikely.
Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?
Definitely not.
What character would you cut from No Conscience?
The ones who were in it but nothing about them got resolved.

Historia
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside - the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped.

Wanted to love it
Revisado: 07-21-17
I absolutely loved "Behind Closed Doors," and while the narration for this one was equally good, the story was not. Similar build-up, just much less believable or exciting. The build-up was slow and boring. The motives, which were revealed after several painful hours at 1.5x, were cliché and boring. I felt no connection whatsoever to the main character/narrator and was disappointed overall.

Had to stop. Whiny narration. Slow plot.
Revisado: 10-27-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book was slow and too 'rated G' for me. I mean given its subject, it should be more intriguing, but it wasn't. The narration was terrible too. It was like a whiny high school girl was narrating it. Which doesn't match up with the lead female character. First book I had to quit before finishing in a long time.

Have yet to come across a better story
Revisado: 10-27-16
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot was epic. Every detail was well thought out. I finished this book and wanted more. I have yet to find another with such a great plot and storyline. Well read too. My friend read it via kindle over the weekend after I finished it the week before and she finished it in 1 day. In Vegas. She couldn't put it down. That's how good it is. Highly recommend.

Young Adult Storyline & Narration
Revisado: 09-29-16
If you've read Room, you were excited to pick this up. However, it's narrated by a teenager and is completely unrealistic and casual. Written and narrated for teenagers. I find myself waiting for it to be over and skipping over drawn out explanations and anecdotes. Seriously, save yourself the trouble.
