Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Kept me intrigued until the end!

Wow! Such a great book! I just finished listening to it! I really enjoyed the reader’s voices! My heart really loved the marsh girl and would have done exactly as Tate did with teaching her to read! I still have tears in my eyes!

Historia
In this intimate dual memoir, she and her daughter, Ann, offer distinct perspectives as a 50-something and a 20-something, each on a quest to redefine herself and to rediscover each other. Between 1998 and 2000, Sue and Ann travel throughout Greece and France. Sue, coming to grips with aging, caught in a creative vacuum, longing to reconnect with her grown daughter, struggles to enlarge a vision of swarming bees into a novel.

But the story back and forth was sometimes hard for me to process. Otherwise I enjoyed it!

Falling in love with a Monk???
Revisado: 02-22-22
I definitely was caught off guard from that line in the beginning of the book. This was especially true after listening to two other novels by the same author that took place in the 1800’s. This book is really about yearning for the truth and loving yourself. A good read!

A great story!

Another eye opening book written by the same author as the Invention of Wings! I have really enjoyed listening to these two books on Audible. The performances were great! And it helped you catch the details provided by the author! I find myself saying “there is a black Mother Mary in all of us.” And I smile knowing that it is true. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

Historia
From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

Loved the vocals in the story!

I am a person who has a Master’s Degree in education but reading books is not always my thing! I would rather be out in nature on an adventure. This book absolutely captivated me while out of work on medical leave. I thoroughly enjoyed the different voices so that you could really develop the story in your mind. I am so thankful that I was able to listen to this story in 2022 after much light has been brought to racism in America lately. I applaud Sarah and her sister in their early work to set expectations for women and slavery. It pains me to know that we are still fighting this fight today! The end note by the author really solidified the beautiful work that she has written! I am grateful for this opportunity to listen and learn. This book has definitely shaped my perspective!
