Not good but passes the time.
Revisado: 10-02-24
This story/series had potential. I enjoy dystopian fiction and the description of this book sounded right up my alley. Unfortunately the execution was lacking. Too simplistic and black and white. The good guys were all one dimension saints and the bad guys were all one dimensional demons. Then there was the dialog. Normal conversations amongst the good guys was generally fine but shallow and uninteresting, but the bad guy dialog was absurdly stupid and every bad guy was a carbon copy of the other bad guys with the same shallow bad guy dialog and motivations. It got really old and boring halfway through the first book and never let up. Just lazy unskilled writing.

Wow! This was beyond stupid!
Revisado: 07-26-24
I’ve read (listened to) half a dozen or more Robert Crais books and most are pretty good, maybe not great but still worth a credit and entertaining to listen to. Not this one. This was terrible. Way overdone in the sappy guilt of the protagonist. His wallowing guilt trips and irrational behavior get really old really fast but a raise just keeps beating that dead horse. When former FBI Agent Pollard gets added I thought it might get better but in order to add drama Crais writes her as surprisingly stupid and overly emotional. She also quickly becomes unlikeable. Add these two unlikeable main characters to completely implausible and poorly thought out plot with bad twists that are only exciting to dimwits. D

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Well told nonsense.
Revisado: 04-30-24
Unfortunately, I am not a writer and do not have the skill to express myself very well here, but I'll give it a try.
Ultimately this book is pointless. We pick up where book one "The Name of The Wind" leave off and basically recap that one just incase you hadn't read it first. Much of the same stuff retold or the same types of things happening over again at the school with just some slight variation from the first book so we can pretend they are new stories. More pointless side stories and more meaningless tangents. Little to nothing is resolved. Kwoth learns a bit more but ultimately his annoying arrogance and willful density prevent him from learning what he wants to.
There are new adventures and wondering tangents and side quests after side quests after side quests. Completely losing the main plot, if there even is one in this book.
Rothfuss really really likes to tell stories. And apparently, he thinks he's good at it. He has lots and lots of creative ideas for stories and he's good with language and writing but ultimately the stories, and tangents and subplots are all pointless. This book absolutely goes nowhere after long long ramblings and wonderings.
Denna is continued, but if you found her frustrating or annoying in book one, she gets even worse here. By the middle of this book I really wanted her to get killed off. Such a tedious character. Total failure for alluring love interest.
This book also gets really gross in the sex and romance field. Kwoth hooks up with Flueorian (sp?) the fairy demi-god whatever thing and that whole section is just gross. Yuck! Do yourself a favor and if you do listen to this one just skip chapters 97 through 106. From there with his newfound sexual prowess (which we are subjected to constant bragging about from him) he continues to woo and seduce half the women in the book. Such a stud... Ick!
This book is like enduring a rambling nonsensical tail told by a small child as their mind wanders around from subject to subject with little coherence. The only saving grace is that the ideas Rothfuss comes up with are generally interesting at first and he strings words and sentences together well with good descriptions. Only, ultimately there is no point. There is absolutely no point to this book at all.

Mediocre.
Revisado: 04-12-24
Sadly another mediocre book. The writing isn’t bad but it isn’t good either. Cahill borrows very heavily from previous books and movies for this story and characters only without any of the spark, depth or interest that made his inspirational material work.
The characters are not really likable even though they should be. They are reliable fantasy and fiction material, but they are just written poorly. Their dialog and emotions are forced and contradictory from one sentence to the next. Their reactions don’t make sense. The ping ponging of emotions and reactions makes them unrelatable cardboard. The action isn’t captivating and the story just is not interesting. The basic concept has been done way too many times by better writers.
I, myself won’t waste anymore of my time or credits on this author.

The monarchs of the Middle Sea set aside their differences and ready their armies to make a stand. Force of arms alone will not be enough, as countless heroes of history have discovered to their demise. Not bad, but not good. Completely forgettable.
Revisado: 03-31-24
Mediocre story. Just barely interesting enough to finish, but not by much. Dialog/conversations weren’t smart or interesting and although they moved the plot or explained the plot, half the time they were unnecessary or repetitive.
The plot had some holes or maybe even though it was explained several times I just wasn’t picking it up.
The narrator didn’t help this book at all. He had lots of accents instead of different voices for characters and they were just cheesy and annoying. Add that to some over the top acting and excessive inflections and it made a not particularly good book a not good audiobook. I’ll avoid this narrator in the future.

This might have been a okay book if half of it was edited out. Most of the dialog is useless nonsense. Much of the story and descriptions are a waste of time and energy making a okay story tedious. Not what one expects from Sanderson. Not a good book.

Historia
Science is how we understand the world. Yet failures in peer review and mistakes in statistics have rendered a shocking number of scientific studies useless—or, worse, badly misleading. Such errors have distorted our knowledge in fields as wide-ranging as medicine, physics, nutrition, education, genetics, economics, and the search for extraterrestrial life. As Science Fictions makes clear, the current system of research funding and publication not only fails to safeguard us from blunders but actively encourages bad science—with sometimes deadly consequences.

Important read.
Revisado: 01-04-24
Ritchie does an excellent job of presenting his case that bad science is doing a disservice to science and the general public and how the scientific community can fix it.
Regardless of scientific method, humans are humans and we are all susceptible to ego, greed, bias and many other human behaviors that can corrupt science. Pretending that scientist are infallible because they are scientists is naive at best. This book is a good wake up call with plenty of examples and data to back it up. Science is too important to our civilization to let a few bad apples ruin the bunch. Ignoring or dismissing those bad apples destroys the public trust.

Not for me.
Revisado: 01-03-24
It wasn’t a bad book, but neither was it good. I don’t really care for political intrigue and alliances, and spy’s and backstabbing and all that silly shit. For me this story might have been more enjoyable with all that trimmed out although I understand that that was what Weeks wanted this story to be about, but it fails here. Unnecessarily complex and convoluted and several times it contradicts itself.
The characters weren’t interesting and in fact barely tolerable if not down right annoying. By the time we finally finished this book you’re set up for some real development of all characters in the next book. Unfortunately I don’t care enough about the characters or the world to continue.
I was eager for this book to finish and I won’t be continuing on with the next.

Not good.
Revisado: 12-26-23
Only mildly entertaining. Rather juvenile and barely two dimensional. There is only one character barely likable and that’s probably because we don’t get to know much about her.
The narration is way to loud and jarring half the time and then occasionally the narrator mumbles or murmurs with some characters. This narrator is now going to my “no not buy” list. He makes a mediocre book difficult to listen to.
Overall I don’t recommend this book.

Not fun anymore.
Revisado: 10-31-23
Matt Dinniman's first couple Dungeon Crawler Carl books were fun. The first three were absolutely excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Book four started introducing some heavier elements and some character backstory that added some more depth to the characters but unfortunately started dragging the books down. Book five was good and fun in parts but too much of a drag in other parts and a lot less fun to listen to. Book six, The Eye of the Bedlam Bride is just a drag and not fun at all.
This one has been a Did Not Finish for me. I had to keep taking breaks from this one as it was just too depressing and disturbing and no fun at all. The action scenes aren't even any fun and the game concept of this level makes no sense to me so there is nothing interesting to follow. I noticed that my breaks from this audio book kept getting longer as I would find fun and entertaining books to listen to and help recover from this book in each break. Finally I realized I didn't want to continue with this torture session anymore.
The performances of the narrators is also getting really old and annoying. I don't know which narrators do which characters but the characters that yell and scream all the time and the jarring transitions from one character's thoughts and words going from all sad and melancholy to another character screaming absurdities at the next second makes this book unpleasant at best to listen to.
The situation in the story universe is getting more dire and it should be compelling to see what is going to happen and how our protagonists are going to triumph. Only the story and writing along with the narration is so melancholy and depressing that you just don't want to continue anymore.
