Its no shatter point, and its not tompson. So that about sums it up. Wouldn’t say its bad but im starting to become confused as to the point in rebooting a canon just to make a new one thats not better, or even as good.
The story is pretty week as are most of the characters. The main antagonist is pretty good, but the narrators mace is bad and his yoda is far worse.
Could of been much better.

Its a good book but also very overrated, ask yourself, if the main quest was rescuing your missing wife, how much side questing would you do. This guy literally stops to train with luke for months, everything just makes it seem as if finding his wife is secondary to his personal journey, however marcs performance is 5 star as it always is and will be, hes the best when it comes to sw audio books

I am a life long king fan, he’s most of what i read, and i Hate to jump on this train. But his politics are non-stop in this one, every single chapter (most only being 3-5 min) is covid this and trump that, and he’s starting to become unrealistically ridiculous, for example saying a character “cried tears of joy when biden won” or that a woman divorced her husband because he came home in a “maga hat” these concepts are insanely ridiculous. This may be the first book king has written that i don’t think im going to make it through, and its honestly sad. Because i absolutely love Holly Gibney but this pook is so far above 75-80 % liberal propaganda and 10-15 % story. And i have no political agenda btw, its just annoying and repetitive.

Picks up where we left off with phase 1 perfectly. Maybe the best since the first if not definitely one of the better HR novels. 5 star story all the way through. Not a “to be continued “ either and the ending is Great! Marc is the absolute best as always. Enjoy this one i think ill go back for seconds.

Probably best new canon novel so far…

Absolutely great! Depiction of the fall to the dark side is the best part, makes you feel betrayed by the jedi. Great tie in to the vader comics too. This book checks all the boxes the new canon books have been missing, Applause to the author and its no mark thompson but the narrator does an amazing job.

Even better than I remember !

I love when star wars steps away from the force and gets dark, and this was always one of my favorite EU books. It’s part of an old canon but doesn’t have to be, its just good, it doesn’t even need the guest appearance it gets half way through, it stands firmly on its own. And for someone who usually cringes as soon as i dont see marc thompsons name, this narrator was excellent.

Overall this is the weakest installment in the High Republic series. This time around the YA Novel (Path of Deception) was way better than this. I guess it comes down to the strength and experience of the author in the SW canon. Its a good story but doesn’t leave you wanting more the way HR usually does. Marc is always at his best but really since there are no actual SW characters for him to voice, he wasn’t really needed.

Best YA Star Wars yet

This book is a modern tragedy, it’s absolutely amazing from start to finish. If you’re like me and have come to skip the high republics ya installments dont skip this one, its so good im actually excited for a follow up to this story. Great into to phase 2
