Another Pen & Desdona story!
Revisado: 02-02-25
I love the back and forth between Pen and Des, and how they outfox (so to speak) their various opponents.

Historia
Having just celebrated her 26th birthday in 1976 California, Dana, an African-American woman, is suddenly and inexplicably wrenched through time into antebellum Maryland. After saving a drowning White boy there, she finds herself staring into the barrel of a shotgun and is transported back to the present just in time to save her life. During numerous such time-defying episodes with the same young man, she realizes she's been given a challenge.

The past is foreign land
Revisado: 09-07-24
Fascinating "first person" story about a young black woman who is mysteriously transported back in time to Maryland during the era of plantations, black slaves, and white slave owners. The son of the plantation owner, she recognizes him by name as one of her ancestors, along with one of the young women slaves. Our protagonist, the young women transported back in time, is from Los Angeles, and at first is completely bewildered by the social customs of slaves and owners. But however she can manage it, it soon becomes clear to her that her job is to keep the plantation owner's son alive, until he and one of his slaves can produce a child that can carry a line down to our protagonist. And that turned out to be a real challenge! Any more and I'd spoil all the twists and turns of the story, but I highly recommend this book, esp to people with an interest in history.
