When the leader of North Korea is catastrophically injured, his incapacitation inadvertently triggers a “dead-man’s switch”, activating an army of sleeper agents in South Korea and precipitating a struggle for succession. Jack Ryan, Jr. is in Seoul to interview a potential addition to the Campus. But his benign trip takes a deadly turn when a wave of violence perpetrated by North Korean operatives grips South Korea’s capital. A mysterious voice from North Korea offers Jack a way to stop the peninsula’s rush to war, but her price may be more than he can afford to pay.

I'll Keep Reading Jack Ryan Books After This One!
Revisado: 02-10-23
Thank you for the great action story that used to be synonymous with the Jack Ryan Jr. series! I had already said I wouldn't listen to one again after the last book because of all the "woke" themes that permiated the book. Thank you for not including a gratuitous LGBQT+ character in this book just for the sake of pleasing that group. like everyone else seems to be doing. I read action thrillers to be entertained, not to be preached at by woke writers.

Historia
It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

Great story and performance
Revisado: 11-26-19
Really , really liked this story until the very end when the writer for some reason felt compelled to go PC and cave to the alphabet soup crowd and throw in a strong hint of homosexuality. Story would have been totally great without this.

Historia
The CIA's deepest secrets are being given away for a larger agenda that will undermine the entire Western intelligence community. Director of National Intelligence Mary Pat Foley wants it stopped but doesn't know who, how, or why. Jack Ryan, Jr., is dispatched to Poland on a different mission. The clues are thin, and the sketchy trail dead ends in a harrowing fight from which he barely escapes with his life. If that's not bad enough, Jack gets more tragic news. An old friend, who's dying from cancer, has one final request for Jack.

Really didn't appreciate the homosexuality pervasive throughout the book. Story could have been told just as effectively without it. Probably my last Clancy book.

Historia
A toxic presidential election is underway in an America already badly weakened by internal divisions. While politicians focus entirely on maintaining their own power, ISIS kidnaps a brilliant French microbiologist and forces him to begin manufacturing anthrax. Slickly produced videos chronicling his progress and threatening an imminent attack are posted to the internet, intensifying the hysteria gripping the United States.

Way better than recent Clancy book.

Great story , captivating , held me all the way through. Loved the parallels to today's political climate and how it exposes the mind set of those politicos whose thirst for power is destroying our great country. Way better than the most recent Clancy book.

Great Story-Terrible Narration
Revisado: 02-22-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Mitch Rapp is a "man's man" Ken Kaliban's voice emasculates him! His high pitched voice turns Mitch into a pathetic whiner. Further, Kaliban has little sense of timing; i.e., he doesn't know when to speak in a forceful way or in a more natural tone, many times feigning anger when the context does not call for it. Particularly irritating is his technique of starting a sentence out strong and loud and then ending it in almost a whisper. Once or twice is okay but he does it with almost every sentence.
I suffered through the terribly irritating narration only because the story was good and I didn't want to miss the installment in the series. No need for you to do the same: buy the book but skip the audio!

Historia
CIA counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp falls prey to government forces with an agenda of their own after Dr. Irene Kennedy is named the successor to dying CIA Director Thomas Stansfield—a choice that enrages many inside the world’s most powerful intelligence agency. Her detractors will resort to extreme measures to prevent her from taking the reins—which makes Rapp an expendable asset. But Mitch Rapp is no one’s pawn, and he will stop at nothing to find out who has set him up.

Only one other. This one compares favorably.
