Rachel Rueckert does a beautiful job telling the story of true historical figures, pirate Sam Bellemy and Maria, a fiery woman accused of witchcraft. The story alternates narrators, taking us through the action on the seas and at home as each faces challenges and nearly insurmountable odds to try to find their way back to each other. Ruckert’s meticulous research shines through, taking modern readers into life in Cape Cod in the golden age of pirates. Pilar Witherspoon does a great job with the narration, though I was surprised that she pronounced the main character's name as "Mariah" instead of "Maria."

Engaging, thoughtful, thoroughly enjoyable single-volume history of Mormonism in America. Park traces the major social, political, and theological shifts as Mormonism reacted to, against, and integrated with the larger American culture. Park went far beyond the nearly all-white male priesthood hierarchy to highlight aspects of the larger story through the experiences of women, racial minorities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. The book will appeal to a broad audience as Park successfully argues how the story of this home-grown American religion reveals much about how the United States has changed over the last two centuries. Strong audio performance.

I love this memoir, and Rachel Rueckert does an excellent job narrating. I read the paperback shortly after it was released and then bought the audiobook as soon as it was available. New insights hit me while listening and I found myself pausing to soak in Rachel's insight and wisdom.

Fascinating. Dr. Park pays careful attention to include the voices and experiences of women and racial minorities who are often left out of narratives about this time. Park contextualizes the radical theocratic experiment began in Nauvoo while demonstrating how the LDS experiments fits in with contemporary challenges to American democratic ideals. The book is well written and is an essential work in Mormon Studies that crosses over well to a general audience.

Mother's Milk has been such an important part in my seeking a relationship with Heavenly Mother. These tiny poems capture so much about motherhood, womanhood, and divinity.

Really interesting but I don't listening to characters' internal monologues that drone on forever. Its like listening to a good friend agonize over every decision they make in life.
