We all Knew!
Revisado: 01-08-25
This was over descriptive of the layout of the area and was a lot of exposition. The chapters were very uneven. It would go from a chapter that was around 6 minutes long into a chapter that was 36 minutes long. During the climax I found the description of what the victim had done way too detailed, it was too flowery to describe such a disgusting crime.
A lot of the descriptions were repetitive. The amount of times "we have our own way of doing thing on the island" was said had me rolling my eyes every time I heard it. Yeah yeah we get it quirky, untrusting locals! Then there's a completely unnecessary and, in my opinion, incomprehensible given the recent tragedy, romance shoe horned in right at the end. I really did not care for that.
To wrap up, everyone really did know but him, including me.

Historia
Cadence "Cady" Bloomquist knows two things for sure: First, shelving books at her shop, Nevermore Bookstore, totally counts as cardio. Second, staying late every Thursday night to take a certain mysterious customer's order is not the same as waiting by the phone for some man. Until the calls with the man who identifies himself only as "Fox" last for hours, and become the highlight of her week. Which leaves her to wonder, if his velvet voice can kindle her fire over the phone, what sort of alchemy might it inspire if they met in person?

Great Ideas but not Great Execution
Revisado: 01-07-25
I really wanted to love this but it jsut didn't click for me. I think Cady's character needed to be fleshed out a bit more. I also felt like the whole "mystery" around Fox should have been explicitly stated earlier. I think it would have been a more productive way to discuss his history without trying to depict him as a weirdo first. If the audience had understood his background, even if it was before the protagonist, it would have been a more sensitive portrayal.
I had a hard time getting going with this, it was slow in the beginning. The big climax scene with the city council absolutely dragged on and almost made me DNF right at the end. It was saved at the last minute with a twist reveal but it took way too long to get there.
I love the little setting that's established here. Townsend Harbour seems like a Stars Hollow of the PNW. The cast of characters is really fun and I will probably try at least one more book in this series to see if I like it better.

Good Crime, Bad Romance
Revisado: 01-01-25
I liked the FBI investigation part of this but I just didn't feel any chemistry between the main characters. I listened to the audiobook version and really wasn't a fan of the narrator's voice for Nick, so I'm not sure if it was just that or if the characters truly just didn't mesh as well as they did in Something About You.

Max and Cozy and Everley 😍
Revisado: 01-01-25
This is my favorite in this Amy Daws Series so far. I also love the beginning of the spin off series they're doing with Max's brothers that follows this (and I accidentally read first), such a great cast of characters to keep going. Even aside from the other Amy Daws characters from her previous books that make appearances here, Max's family is so fleshed out and real feeling. Max and Cozy are adorable and I loved Cozy and Everley's relationship too. I even loved Max's ex-wife! I was actually a little surprised where they went with Cozy's backstory too, coming from corporate America is one thing but the rest unexpected and really engaged my emotions.

This plus-size curvy-girl romance features a burnt-cinnamon-roll hero with a mean protective streak and a baddie plus-size pop star on the verge of burn out. But a Bridgertons-meets-American-Football family you'll wish you were a part of will make sure they get their happy ever after.

Sweet and Spicy!
Revisado: 01-01-25
I really love this series! Some people complain that there's too much in these books about the women being plus-sized, but as a woman living in a larger body that is constantly reading descriptions of flat stomachs in romance books I find it refreshing. Being fat is part of the lived experience for a lot of us and I think this depicts that in a kind and aspirational way for the most part. I am a fan!
I can't decide if this is spoilery or not but I like that, so far in the two books from this series I have read, the big 3rd act issue/catastrophe results in a mature conversation between adults and not a series of misunderstandings. Completely swoon-worthy if you aks me! I didn't like this one quite as much as the first one. I felt like the "falling in love" part in the begin was rushed a little but it was still a lot of fun. Loved all the Swiftie nods in this one too!

Historia
Life has always been family, football, and school. Focusing on my goals didn’t leave much room for girls. But I’m not in school anymore. I’m the hottest rookie running back the league has ever seen, and I know how to score a touchdown. I don’t have a clue how to score with a girl. But I’m going to learn. Because the girl next door with all the thick curves is my new goal. And I’m going to win her heart. She knows nothing about football, but she does like my tight end. So does her cat.

Cute Series!
Revisado: 01-01-25
This series is so cute! Each book it seems like the romantic plot happens with less and less development. I usually find really slow burns frustrating but these go in the other direction. For me, it gives the story less emotional impact and I'm less invested in the relationship. Willa's family is also sort of cartoonishly selfish and the plot with the father just sort of came out of nowhere for me.
That being said I love a lot about this series. The characters are always fun and there's a big recurring cast of characters we get to check in with. Honestly I was more interested in what was going on with Penelope and Everett then Hayes and Willa though. I kind of want to see a romance story for Papa Kingman 😂 I love that all of these men are all hot and bothered for enthusiastic consent.
This series is fun and light and low angst and this one was adorable.

Tremendous fun!
Revisado: 08-15-22
That was absolutely wonderful! Such a unique premise, especially for a sequel. Sometimes a huge cast of characters like this can get overwhelming but this was laid out very well and it was easy to follow. All of the original characters were so fun and fully realized with intricate backstories. It was truly an adventure to discover everything. Part of me wished there was more Darcy and Elizabeth but it was interesting to see them through the lens of everyone around them! This was just such a delight, I loved it!

Complete and fully realized story, such a dream!
Revisado: 08-11-22
Oh I was sad to see this one come to an end! Where do I begin? The plot was so fun and fleshed out with lots of supporting characters that were given more time and fully realized personalities than in the original. Some of these characterizations are strikingly different from P&P but the author does a nice job of working that into the plot.
I thought the pacing of this was very good and my only complaint might be that ODC spends a large portion of the story apart. The author more than makes up for this later!
One of my favorite aspects of this story is that nothing is skimmed over. I hate when you're reading a story and there's a line like "they walked together and had the most delightful conversation and fell more and more in love" without any insight into what actually transpired between the characters. This story does not skip any of the important conversations that form the foundation for the characters actions and feelings.
The peripheral characters take more of a central role here and are all fun and unique in their characterization. It was such a joy to discover the larger world of Pride and Prejudice.
I will note that the narrator makes some odd choices with pronunciation choices, most notably pronouncing Longbourn as LongBURN. But over all her delivery is transporting. Occasionally I had a hard time deciphering that she had switched from voicing one character to another but this confusion never lasted long and did not diminish my enjoyment.
This went to the top of the list of my favorite Pride and Prejudice variations and I am sure I will return to it again and again in the future.

The Best "Groundhog Day" Variation
Revisado: 01-10-22
This is without question my favorite of the Pride and Prejudice variations to tackle this kind of plot. It so expertly weaves together all of the characters major and minor and had several genuine surprises for me throughout.
I especially enjoyed Colonel Fitzwilliam in this variation, he was so much fun. Caroline Bingley even has a believable and well done arc that I really enjoyed, it wasn't over the top one way or the other like some of them can be.
As always Ms. Bamber truly utilizes the full cast of characters given in Pride and Prejudice and it makes it all the more fun.
I was really and truly impressed by this and if you are looking at it thinking "Ugh I've read this one before, or similar enough" then trust me you're wrong.
I also really loved the narrator, everyone had a distinct voice and she even brought a but of theatrics to her reading that really added to the story.
I would give it 100 stars if I could, well done!
