Historia
Selchester Castle in 1953 sits quiet and near-empty, its corridors echoing with glories of the past. Or so it seems to intelligence officer Hugo Hawksworth, wounded on a secret mission and now reluctantly assuming an altogether less perilous role at Selchester.

Thoroughly enjoyed this writer
Revisado: 05-16-16
Good writer. She paints wonderful word pictures. I enjoyed the characters, and the mystery had several twists and turns. I was a bit afraid to buy this book because of the comments about too many things being left unresolved. I didn't find it so. I liked the ending.

Historia
In 1938, when the Japanese arrived in Huan Hsu's great-great-grandfather Liu's Yangtze River hometown of Xingang, Liu was forced to bury his valuables, including a vast collection of prized antique porcelain, and undertake a decades-long trek that would splinter the family over thousands of miles. Many years and upheavals later, Hsu, raised in Salt Lake City and armed only with curiosity, moves to China to work in his uncle's semiconductor chip business.

Well written
Revisado: 04-11-15
Hsu 's narrative is well written. An interesting weave of his search for his heritage, a quick history of China, and a tutorial on Chinese porcelain. Hsu storytelling skills are amazing. I began the book wanting to know the resolution, and as I continued, Hsu drew me into the journey. The resolution became unimportant. I'm a mystery story buff, so not needing the resolution means Hsu did a great job communicating his experience. I also learned much about the Chinese culture. I recommend this book as a great cross of history and personal story.

Enjoy the interplay between the main characters
Revisado: 12-05-12
The Tommy and Tuppence books are refreshing and fun. The interplay between the two is quite fun. Tuppence has spunk and Tommy is self depreciating. The story line is, of course, similar to AC's other stories, a whodunit, but fun with these two.

One of my favorite Agatha Christies
Revisado: 11-10-12
I enjoyed the twists and turns, and the intricate plot lines. I like the stories where Christie developes her characters to this extent. One of the 'kinder, gentler' mysteries.

Historia
Most murder stories have it all wrong, as they start with the murder itself. The story truly begins long before, with actions that seem insignificant and unrelated, but all lead toward the zero point-murder. A dashing tennis player named Neville Strange, his current stylish wife, his not-so-stylish ex-wife, plus a distant relative and a few others find their way to a house party. When a murder occurs, Superintendent Battle is nearby and called on to help solve the case. But is the information on hand enough to go by?

Historia
Jane Marple goes to stay with her old, and rather frail, friend Carrie-Louise at her sprawling Victorian Gothic mansion. It is not only a family home but also a rehabilitation center for delinquent boys, and she soon begins to realize that all is not well there. Then an attempt is made on the life of Carrie-Louise's husband, her step-son is shot to death, and someone tries to poison Carrie-Louise herself. Can Marple protect her friend and help the police unmask a brutal, and possibly deranged, killer?

One of my favorites
Revisado: 06-25-12
I very much enjoy Joan Hickson's narration. I like hearing her very aged voice, and her slight lisp. She makes me feel like I am in the story - maybe because hers is not the perfect, modern, expected voice.
The story is one of my favorites. I enjoyed the varied characters, most of whom Christie made me like! And the outcome was not obvious to me. A fun listen, and re-listen.

A different type of Agatha Christie Story
Revisado: 01-11-12
If you could sum up Crooked House in three words, what would they be?
Characters well developed
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
It was fun to get to know all the people, and just keep guessing 'who done it.'
Have you listened to any of Hugh Fraser’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I thoroughly enjoy Hugh Fraser's narrations.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The twist at the end is a bit sad, and deep.
