"Talk" seems so normal, so ordinary, so harmless. Yet there are few things we do that are more important. And underneath the normality of it all is a great struggle, a war of words that we fight every day. Who hasn't been hurt by the words of another? Who hasn't regretted something they said? Recognizing that words are powerful, Paul Tripp shows us how the gospel transforms the way we communicate. Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Word is the only hope for our words. In our war of words, he is the one who gives us the victory.

Stick through to the end
Revisado: 07-07-24
This started off slow and the first few chapters I was undecided if I would stick with it. Over time, I listened a bit here and there. The farther in I got, the better it was and I found myself listening to longer segments. I did not agree 100% with every statement made by the author, but did find some very useful and encouraging teachings and examples along the way. My initial impression wasn't great, but having stuck through to the end, the content was very worthwhile. I did find the narrator a bit too steady and calming, so I couldn't listen at night or driving. I sped it up a bit and that helped. This was what I was looking for- a perspective shift about how to improve my communication, not a "how to" or "10 easy steps."

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

I wasn't sure, but I loved it
Revisado: 03-28-22
I can struggle with content from this time period. I have a very active imagination visualizing stories I read or listen to, and I am quite sensitive to graphic descriptions. I did not know what to expect in terms of disturbing content, but I also wanted to not avoid discomfort when I could glean from Ms. Tenboom's wisdom and inspiration. Her writing is inspired, and despite the deeply disturbing and appauling conditions she describes very tactfully, her spirit of acceptance, peace, joy, and hope shines so radiantly that the almost impossible happens- one reads about inhumane conditions, yet the mind is left lingering on the goodness and provision of the Lord. Usually I have nightmares following books regarding this time period, but Ms. Tenboom's writing leaves me moved so deeply and yet feeling strangely more secure than I had felt before learning details of the depravity of humankind. The Lord, indeed, always is good.

Historia
As a woman in today’s world, you know what it’s like to feel pressure on all sides from clashing cultural expectations. How can you stay true to who God has uniquely created you to be in the face of the script you’ve been given? What’s more, how can you stand your ground with grace? The classy confidence you know and love - whether it’s on set at Full House or Fuller House, Dancing with the Stars, The View, or Candace’s Hallmark films - is no act. But it hasn’t come easy. In fact, learning to stay true to herself with grace has been one of the biggest fights of Candace’s life.

I enjoyed this as a relaxing, calming listen. I don't usually read anything written by or about celebrities (just not my area of interest), so I wasn't sure if I would like this. I found it to be down to earth and relatable. It was great to hear over and over gentle prompts to extend kindness and grace, relying on the Lord for courage and wisdom to stand our ground and not compromise integrity.

Historia
Many years ago, the storytellers say, the great King Arthur brought justice to England with the help of his gallant Knights of the Round Table. Sir Lancelot the Great: Of these worthy knights, there was never one so fearless, so chivalrous, so honorable, so…shiny as the dashing Sir Lancelot. Sir Givret the Short: Poor Givret: His size makes him so easy to overlook. But there’s more to knighthood than height. Sir Gawain the True The knights didn’t always act quite as gallantly as a true knight should. Even King Arthur’s nephew....

A gem! Whole family enjoyed it!
Revisado: 11-16-21
We listened with our 3 boys ages 9-14 and even the adults were chuckling at times! Made time pass quickly on a road trip and my kids immediately asked if there was another book in this series. I would say this is ok for ages 5+ as there is no peril that isn't lighthearted which comes to a good end. Clean, decent, entertaining!

A joy to listen to and ponder
Revisado: 06-24-21
l loved these. I cannot choose a favorite of all the books in this collection. Each presents observations and refections on human relationships, interactions, emotions, and consequences of choice from different vantage points. It is wonderful to hear stories with romance which are wholesome and do not contain any graphic or inappropriate lustful descriptions. There are many gems of wisdom in these works, and the narrator's pauses and inflections add meaning and feeling. If you have enjoyed any of the movies made based on Jane Austin's books, try getting lost in hours of rich literary content here.

This is the WHOLE book-same as print edition
Revisado: 03-15-21
I own the print copy of this book. Contrary to what another reviewer states, this is the whole book, including the
"After Word" at the end regarding cartography. While it is wonderful to have the images in the book, it is a blessing to have this available in audio. We listened to the whole book on a long car ride and learned many things that we hadn't come across in our last 2 years of studying these time periods in American History at an elementary level. We're looking forward to finishing the whole series. A side-note: We did choose to skip listening to Book 1 after hearing a portion of its content. If you are comfortable with speculative evolutionary thought, it may be acceptable to you, but we wanted to get to the meaty history with specific people, places, events, etc. that can be proven. The narrator is clear and has some expression, but we did find it soothing/calming enough that it may cause some drowsiness if listened to on a car ride as we did. Would be perfect for relaxing rest/quiet time at home. Having a dyslexic student, I am very grateful when I can find an audio companion to books we desire to read.

Historia
In the early years of our country, a poor school teacher, Justin Morgan, receives a horse and her tiny colt in payment for some work. He wishes he had been given money instead. Hoping that he might sell both horses for a fair price, he asks his student, Joel, to break in the colt. To his surprise, young Joel soon discovers that this small, brown creature has special abilities: "Bub" can pull more than a team of oxen, and he can run faster than a racehorse.

A multi-layered tale of two very different pigs that you will find yourself snickering at . . . yet you will find very thought-provoking. Sidney & Norman uses the simple context of two pigs living next door to each other to communicate a profound truth about how we judge each other and often judge ourselves. On the surface, Sidney & Norman appears to be a picture book that will entertain kids. But this story has deeply moved adult audiences in informal readings, leading to deep-thinking discussions.

Interesting and appropriate for all ages, thought provoking, comforting, and challenging even to adults. The performance is great and the story is memorable and makes excellent points. It takes a gift to so clearly portray a deep concept that noth child and adult can enjoy and apply it, and the author certainly acheives this. Highly recommend

Revisado: 08-25-19
great conclusion to rest of trilogy. sometimes great truths are best described as a parable as the Lord Jesus Christ taught. any one who is looking for something a little more in depth entertainment for heart and mind this is excellent. C.S. Lewis was years ahead of his time in this story. It exposes the evil found in communist philosophy, and the way people become insensitized to the way they view others and the world around them. Yet it shows what true life is in Christ and the intimacy in which we are to love others.
