BEST Narrator/Performer
Revisado: 08-17-24
I've just started this series this summer after it being recommended several times over the years. The performer, Heath Miller, is solidly in my top 3 of readers on Audible right now. He really brings the characters and world to life in such an engaging and clear way.

Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

Difficult to follow aurally, but still interesting
Revisado: 12-10-22
This is an interesting world with a few interesting characters in a LARGE cast. It was a bit difficult to follow along while listening due to all the time and people jumping. I wonder if it's a better series in print. Also, the high treble of the audio recording combined with character voices chosen by the narrator are a bit distracting.

Historia
Leaving Earth, the crew of the spaceship Discipline were prepared for a routine assignment. Dispatched by the all-powerful State on a mission of interstellar exploration and colonization, Discipline was aided - and secretly spied upon - by Sharls Davis Kendy, an emotionless computer intelligence programmed to monitor the loyalty and obedience of the crew. What they weren’t prepared for, however, was the Smoke Ring - an immense, gaseous envelope that had formed around a neutron star directly in their path. The Smoke Ring was home to a variety of plant and animal life-forms evolved to thrive in conditions of continual free fall.

Fortunately shorter than it felt.
Revisado: 05-13-21
Lackluster story and performance. Was a bit tricky to follow the timing of events in audio form because the action and dialogue are narrated in a way that was difficult for me to separate. I think I'll need to re-read this one.

The Galahad, a faster-than-light spacecraft, carries 50 scientists and engineers on a mission to prepare Kepler 452b, Earth's nearest habitable neighbor at 1400 light years away. With Earth no longer habitable and the Mars colony slowly failing, they are humanity's best hope. After 10 years in a failed cryogenic bed - body asleep, mind awake - William Chanokh's torture comes to an end as the fog clears, the hatch opens, and his friend and fellow hacker, Tom, greets him...by stabbing a screwdriver into his heart. This is the first time William dies.

Predictable outcome, but entertaining nonetheless.
Revisado: 03-05-18
The narrator is excellent. The story has many interesting ideas about AI, HI, reality, and immortality. However, the outcome is predictable, but it was still a fun story to the end.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Politi-drama, in Space!
Revisado: 07-16-17
Outstanding performance by Wil Wheaton covering a large range of characters and their personalities. If you like the West Wing or House of Cards AND science fiction this book is for you. It's filled with plenty of political maneuvering to satisfy any CSPAN junkie.

Meh. Couldn't finish
Revisado: 07-10-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different story altogether
Would you ever listen to anything by Dave Eggers again?
Maybe.
What three words best describe Dion Graham’s voice?
Warm and enthusiastic, but sometimes patronizing.
What character would you cut from The Circle?
The main character, May. It's nice to have a female protagonist, but she's pretty unlikable since she frequently lets people walk all over. Grow a spine! If you see something, say somthing, May!
Any additional comments?
I think this book is frustrating for anyone that already has concerns about data collection and internet privacy. As someone over 30, I have already experienced the ever-increasing reach of internet companies in our daily lives. I am nearly 60 audible chapters through the book, with only 8 hours of listening time and nothing interesting, revelatory or engaging has happened. I'm just not interested in investing the equivalent of another work day to find out how many computer screens end up at May's desk, or how many friend requests she has to manage, or how her dream job at fictional Google is really a job in some shadowy internet organization that has the whole globe under surveillance.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

So much fun!
Revisado: 07-10-17
Where does Redshirts rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Top of the stack
Which character – as performed by Wil Wheaton – was your favorite?
Korenski is easily the funniest character and I love the Chekov flavour added to the character
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! I"m only on chapter 18 and am enjoying it so much that I had to review it before I finished it!
Any additional comments?
Admittedly, this book is probably much more enjoyable for us Star Trek fans. Everyone can likely could find some humour in the "Red Shirts" concept, the humour, tone, and references are Star Trek all the way. And of course, listening to "Ensign Crusher" narrate the story makes it even funnier. I can picture Wil Wheaton fighting with himself to not laugh out loud through most of the narration. So glad I downloaded this!

This version of the Bennet family - and Mr. Darcy - is one that you have and haven't met before: Liz is a magazine writer in her late 30s who, like her yoga instructor older sister, Jane, lives in New York City. Nails the satirical note of the original
Revisado: 04-23-17
this was a great listen. the author did a tremendously good job in updating Austen's satirical tone to the modern age. very funny and full of pleasantly unexpected twists. I only wish the narrated voice of Liz had been presented as a more self-assured woman. at times, the career driven and family focused Liz sounds a touch whiny. otherwise, splendid performance and a great story.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

great time travel story that is aware of the potential fallout of each action. great side love story that has the best ending. Also, there is an amazing treat of a tie-in for long time King readers when we meet some old characters from another work. I was grinning throughout their entire scene...but I dont want to give it away here.
