Hollywood style, lazy writer.

Hollywood style, lazy writer.
The story is so canned and formulated. The characters seems borrowed from many similar books, the plot is also very predictable. In my opinion, the whole thing is very boring and an insult to any intelligent reader/listener.
I always felt the technical aspect of Hollywood is fantastic, which makes the setting so realistic. The skills of the actors are super, making the characters come alive on screen. The only unreal part and the weakest link is its script, and the writers "create" them. Their writing is often juvenile, rebottled from the shelf, absolutely no originality; lack any cleverness or creative ideas. Not only they have no talent to observe the real world, and bring a vivid depiction of this fascinating world to their story. The worst sin is that they forgot to entertain, but designate themselves as propaganda minister or comrade some sort to preach and showcase their boring political propaganda agenda. I thought only the old Chinese Communist movie industry did that. The difference here is people have to pay money to see these propaganda junks.
I find that David Rosenfelt is such a Hollywood style lazy writer. The story is so familiar, as I have heard many times before. I have to admit that I can not force myself to listening to the whole boring episode, and this review is based on my partial, impatient listening.

I highly recommend this little gem

I never written an audible book review before, but I find the low rating of this book is so unjust that I’m propelled to express my opinion.
I enjoyed listening to this book very much. I thought Charles Cumming is a terrific new writer, and I can’t wait to read/listen to his other books. As I grew up, I was a Sherlock Holmes fan. Arthur Conan Doyle made all his characters so vivid and so real. I think Charles Cumming also has the talent to bring all his characters alive. Alec Milius, the main character, a somewhat confused young person you may know somewhere. He will invite you to join him as his confidant. You will meet the people he meets and experience the same events as he endured. By the end of the book you almost feel as if you have witnessed real incidents unfolding. The only thing preventing me from thinking the accounts in this book could not be totally real is the current political climate. I do not think an American Intelligence Organization will be involved in a few of the most devious deeds as depicted in this book.
If you like action packed, shoot-them-up type of cheap thrillers, you can skip this book. If you like intelligent, well written, intriguing stories about the modern world of espionage, I highly recommend this little gem.
