Historia
One phone call. That's all it took to change Stephanie Wittels Wachs's life forever.... Her younger brother Harris, a star in the comedy world known for his work on shows like Parks and Recreation, had died of a heroin overdose. How do you make sense of such a tragic end to a life of so much hilarious brilliance? In beautiful, unsentimental, and surprisingly funny prose, Stephanie Wittels Wachs alternates between her brother's struggle with addiction, which she learned about three days before her wedding, and the first year after his death, in all its emotional devastation.

Wow. This is the truest story I’ve read of the baffling heartbreak that is addiction robbing a close family of a genius...

A beautiful story of grief and love
Revisado: 02-02-24
I really enjoyed this book. I lost my brother to a fentanyl overdose recently and found this story so relatable in terms of how her feelings and grief were expressed. She did a beautiful job recounting her relationship with her brother and the experience of loving someone addicted to drugs.

Historia
When T. J. Wray lost her 43-year-old brother, her grief was deep and enduring and, she soon discovered, not fully acknowledged. Despite the longevity of adult sibling relationships, surviving siblings are often made to feel as if their grief is somehow unwarranted. After all, when an adult sibling dies, he or she often leaves behind parents, a spouse, and even children - all of whom suffer a more socially recognized type of loss.

Helpful for dealing with sibling loss
Revisado: 01-17-24
I enjoyed the structure of the book as well as the content. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that it talked about God from a believers perspective and I am an atheist so there was no talk about addressing lack of faith or questioning those beliefs within grief. So that chapter felt kind of like it didn't apply to me at all. Otherwise great read and worth it if you're dealing with the loss of a sibling.
