Historia
The first Plantagenet king inherited a blood-soaked kingdom from the Normans and transformed it into an empire stretched at its peak from Scotland to Jerusalem. In this epic history, Dan Jones vividly resurrects this fierce and seductive royal dynasty and its mythic world. We meet the captivating Eleanor of Aquitaine, twice queen and the most famous woman in Christendom; her son, Richard the Lionheart, who fought Saladin in the Third Crusade; and King John, a tyrant who was forced to sign Magna Carta, which formed the basis of our own Bill of Rights.

While long, this history is eminently readable and fascinating. I did not know much about this time in English history, but I now have been educated. It is evident that the book was well researched but not boring.

I found the middle to really drag. I almost gave up a couple of times. The ending was well written, so I am glad I finished it.

Historia
In this superbly accomplished new Charlotte and Thomas Pitt adventure, Anne Perry takes us beneath the glittering surface of wealthy Victorian society into a nightmare world of fear and intimidation, where women are too often blamed for the violent attacks against them, and powerful men take what they want, leaving others to pay the price. The horrifying rape and apparent suicide of Catherine Quixwood, wife of a wealthy merchant banker, falls outside the new jurisdiction of Special Branch head Thomas Pitt, but so pervasively offensive are the rumors about the victim that Pitt quietly takes a hand in the investigation.

Enjoyable, but a little wordy
Revisado: 02-22-23
I enjoyed the vignettes presented in the book. The author has done her research. I also enjoyed her take on the brain science she included. I did find that she had difficulties knowing how to end each section, which resulted in it being a little wordy at times.
