Historia
Raze is "just" a lowly Gearblin chained to the quest-giver desk at the worst (and only) arcade in town. And that’s a problem for her. It means that she’s a Non-Participating Citizen, someone who can’t see her stats nor make opposed rolls against Heroes. It’s why her life’s worth less than the vendor trash she doles out. The old-timers swear it didn’t used to be like this; their issues only began once RNGesus went AFK a thousand years ago, leaving the questionably blessed Heroes to conquer everything without consequence.

Weird - enjoyably so
Revisado: 04-22-21
Currently listening to this. Bought it because Felicia Day is the narrator. And oddly enough since my kids have discovered and are bingeing The Office (US version) this week the sexual innuendo and often heard "thats what she said" in this book are making me cringe/ laugh while hoping the author knows how wrong his humour is.
The gaming/geek jokes take me back to working in an ISP call centre back in the 90s. Unapologetic geek culture that is not explained or watered down for the audience to catch up. I could really visualise the action playing out on screen with the stats/rolls as on screen text.
Geek brain candy. Happy to indulge.

Sharing it with my wife and kids.
Also highly recommend following Brene's recommendation to do the wholehearted inventory first.

Historia
Meshel Laurie has had a very varied career, but whether she's working the front desk at a brothel or anchoring drive-time radio, it's always had one common thread: she is a self-confessed workaholic. Thankfully, over the years she's learnt to temper her tendencies with a bit of Buddhist perspective - and you can too! Meshel shares her own experiences with wit and wisdom and explores how to navigate the modern workplace (and stay sane).

Yay Australian content
Revisado: 08-29-18
I listen to Meshels True crime pod cast so decided to give this a try.
I’m also curious about Buddhism and this was a gentle way to dip into it.
It’s nice to listen to something Australian as so much of the content I consume is American.
This was an easy and enjoyable listen and I’m sure to play it more than once to get some of the wisdom to sink in a bit more.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Historia
He was the last great hero of his generation. Velma Martinez - Velveteen - had never intended to be a great hero, but she was out of choices. "Hello, Jolly Roger." "Hello, bunny-eared girl who's taken over my ship. Have you come to collect the bounty on my head?" "I've come because Dame Fortuna told me how to find you, and we need your help." Velveteen crossed her arms. "The Super Patriots are corrupt, and I think Marketing is evil, and they have my best friend, and we want her back."

Any additional comments?
I love reluctant hero's and its rare to find a female one at that. The first book was made up of short stories and read as a bunch of short stories. This second book however has the feel of a novel and after finishing it I am looking forward to another one.
This book is easy to get into and well thought out. A total joy.

Historia
At the dawn of the 20th century, humanity was facing global disaster. Mass starvation, long predicted for the fast-growing population, was about to become a reality. A call went out to the worlds scientists to find a solution. This is the story of the two enormously gifted, fatally flawed men who found it: the brilliant, self-important Fritz Haber and the reclusive, alcoholic Carl Bosch. Together they discovered a way to make bread out of air, built city-sized factories, controlled world markets, and saved millions of lives.

What did you love best about The Alchemy of Air?
History as a great story. It is amazing how if Hollywood hasn't made a movie about it, it doesn't exist. Worked at a place where one of these amazing machines pumped out ammonia nitrate day and night and had no idea how the haber-Bosch invention had changed/impacted the world I live in.

Historia
FNH Audio presents a complete and unabridged reading of H.P. Lovecraft's famous story "At the Mountains of Madness". The story is related by one of the two survivors from a polar expedition. Unlike other polar explorers who may have died from cold, starvation or simply getting lost, in this story things are somewhat different. The survivor is desperate to prevent a new polar expedition because there are "beings" there, strange murderous beings.

Would you listen to At the Mountains of Madness again? Why?
This is the genisis of all those stories like The Thing, Alien vs Preditor. There is nothing like discovering where all the great sc-fi horror has come from. This is the seed of so much of what I have read in the last 20 years. In the begining there was Lovecraft.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Loved it
Revisado: 01-08-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Wil Wheaton reading a story about self aware trek type personel who have realised that if you go on an away mission and arent one of the chosen few you will die and horribly. And probably pointlessly. If you like trek next gen and are aware of the red shirt mythos you cant help but be curious. For me John Scalzi delivers the goods with the story Wil wipes the floor with his delivery.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Redshirts?
Finishing with multiple perspectives was a bit of a jolt but made it feel complete by the end.
What about Wil Wheaton’s performance did you like?
A drunken Kransky discussing his numerous near death events.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Totally wanted to listen from beginning to end. Damn my life interupting!
Any additional comments?
Will be listening again today.
