Interesting history but felt very surface level beyond the dates and milestones. The sections about the harassment and other horrible behaviors seemed very rushed over. I like his books but this was definitely the weakest of the three.

Incredible Story - Fitting Narrator!

Andre Braugher has such an expressive voice, he was perfect for this rollicking, swashbuckling story. You could imagine hearing it by candlelight in an old tavern somewhere. Lots of fun.

Like David Plotz (great narration, BTW) I am a biblical ignoramus so I think I was a good audience for this. I am a big fan of David on the Slate Political Gabfest podcast and I really enjoyed the entire book. Tried to interest my book club but unfortunately no go....

Sounds like a cliche but you'll laugh, you'll cry...I loved that this was narrated by the author, I don't know if anyone else could have done it justice. Alternating the happenings of the losing of his parents with remembrances of their remarkable lives, he paints a picture of a uniquely American family.

I'm a big fan of Nevada Barr but this one did not do it for me. It was my first Audible download and it almost soured me on audiobooks but since then I have come to realize it was an exception. I think part of the issue for me was the narrator, all her male character voices sounded alike and it got confusing.

Enjoyable story, good narrator

I found that like most good ghost stories, it was also a love story. The characters were well-defined and it was by turns, funny, sad and touching. I really enjoyed the narration of this book and will look for others books narrated by Bianca Amato now.

You'll Laugh, You'll Cry and You'll Laugh Again

Loved this so much I recommended it to my book club and they all loved it too. A look back at a very different time but comes across very modern, and you can relate to the characters. Once you know someone else who has read it you will have many inside jokes together!
