Historia
Appie Knoll is the kind of suburb where kids grow up right. But something is wrong. Fourteen-year-old Kevin Bartlett disappears. Everyone thinks he's run away -- until the comic strip ransom note arrives. It doesn't take Spenser long to get the picture -- an affluent family seething with rage, a desperate boy making strange friends...friends like Vic Harroway, body builder. Mr. Muscle is Spenser's only lead and he isn't talking...except with his fists

A great follow up!
Revisado: 03-31-10
Yes it's not the most inventive story but it's very entertaining. Spenser's charm is what keeps a sub par plot from sinking. I liked the book but if this wasn't a Spenser novel it would of felt bland. I wonder how readers felt back in the 70's when this was release? Maybe a weak follow up? I disagree. It keeps things interesting with small mystery but as said before...all because of Spenser. The reader is great and you can tell he understands Spenser's humor. Check it out!

Historia
Spenser earned his degree in the school of hard knocks, so he is ready when a Boston university hires him to recover a rare, stolen manuscript. He is hardly surprised that his only clue is a radical student with four bullets in his chest. The cops are ready to throw the book at the pretty blond coed whose prints are all over the murder weapon but Spenser knows there are no easy answers. He tackles some very heavy homework and knows that if he doesn't finish his assignment soon, he could end up dead.

Good start to a great series!
Revisado: 03-31-10
I've gone years without attempting the Spenser series. I decided to take up the task of trying to read all the books in the series in order. This book is a great start. Without spoiling anything, you get a sense of Spenser's humor while getting a great mini mystery. Yes the book is unabridged and great for a quick trip but the reader is wear it counts. At first his narration comes off as dull but you start to enjoy his interpretation of the character. The story is nothing revolutionary but the plus side is that you can tell Parker respects the likes of Chandler, Hammett etc...which adds to the feel of the novel.
Overall the book is a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Not the best, not the worst. If you're a completest like me then read it, if not still read it because it's the introduction of Spenser who is one of the greats in detective fiction.

I like Deaver alot but this story didn't grab me to well. The reader is good at some books but others he isn't to great. Lincoln Rhyme is a great character though.

Overall it's worth the time and money
Revisado: 04-17-06
Alright this was the first time I ever took a chance on Mr. Deaver and now I practically own all his books...need to know anything else? BUT SERIOUSLY the stories are very entertaining and have amazing twist...hence "Twisted". I told one of the stories to my friend and he was just quiet for a couple of seconds then just looked at me (after obviously putting the puzzle together in his head) and said "whooaaaa that's amazing!"...anyways it's a good audiobook and I enjoyed the readers.
ps. a review before mine said you don't need to pay attention to the stories to grasp whats going on...VERY TRUE...I was taking a test while listening to the stories...and I passed...
