Waste of time and money
Revisado: 04-10-24
I took the author's advice and stopped wasting my time on things that don't move me forward and improve my life. I stopped listening to this book.
I could only get through the first few chapters and then couldn't listen any more. It's full of humble brags and experiences that don't resonate with me. It's mostly stories and surface level ideas. I find it amazing that this guy has sold the world on his supposed secret to success, yet, you never hear anyone cite him as an inspiration or the "go to" guy for guidance.
If you're young and have no idea what you want to do with your life, this book will give you some extremely basic advice. Otherwise, it's pretty much a waste of time and money. There are numerous other books out there that are just as, if not more helpful.

Historia
If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed. On May 17, 2014, Admiral William H. McRaven addressed the graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin on their Commencement day. Taking inspiration from the university's slogan, "What starts here changes the world," he shared the ten principles he learned during Navy Seal training that helped him overcome challenges not only in his training and long Naval career, but also throughout his life; and he explained how anyone can use these basic lessons to change themselves - and the world - for the better.

Easy to use ideas. A bit repetitive.
Revisado: 06-06-19
The ideas were easy to understand and the stories attached to each one were quite interesting. While already a short book, could have been a little shorter as some of the content was repeated. Great book though.

Everybody wins when you use common sense
Revisado: 07-07-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The anecdotal stories used in the various sections. They're hokey, even corny and annoying.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Honestly, I can't recall anything that was most or least interesting. It's a fairly vanilla, straight-forward, common sense pile of ideas.
What didn’t you like about Maurice England’s performance?
I like his easy going vibe, but the way he told some of the stories, specifically how he narrated the voices of the couples Dr. Chapman worked with, was quite irritating. Just a little too country for me.
Do you think Everybody Wins needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Not really. As I mentioned earlier, it's basic information and common sense ideas. There were some good reminders. It's just not in need of a sequel.

Curiosity never killed anything...not even the cat
Revisado: 07-01-15
What did you love best about A Curious Mind?
It's simple, yet straightforward approach to improving your ability to be more curious. Not esoteric, just very simple.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I enjoyed the short story about Princess Diana at the end of the audio book. She came across as human and not this fragile, delicate image that many others wanted to believe she was.
What does Norbert Leo Butz bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Norbert's easy going and casual tone continually made me believe the author, Brian Grazer, was actually reading the book to me. He's very good.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, because the series of anecdotal stories were very interesting.
Any additional comments?
Don't expect a lot of skills and tricks to be learned from this book. The stories serve as inspiration to rediscover being more curious about the world and the people we surround ourselves with every day.

Historia
The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This widely acclaimed bestseller, in which Malcolm Gladwell explores and brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

Selective data with a push for limits on freedom
Revisado: 06-21-15
What did you like best about The Tipping Point? What did you like least?
The story behind "Sesame Street" and "Blue's Clues" was interesting. The stories about the suicide rates in Micronesia and smoking & children were presented with limited data and advocacy for restricting freedom. Mr. Gladwell's presentation of the data regarding the suicides in Micronesia is simplistic and very surface level with no real concern or dive into other stressors for the spike in teenagers taking their own lives. Mr. Gladwell pins most of the blame on fantastical and magical reasons for kids killing themselves; more than likely this does not really explain the increase. As for the smoking section, he casually passes over the addictive quality of smoking and spends most of his time discussing one study of mice and how they theorize their genetic make up is the primary reason for if and how much nicotine they ingest. And to conclude that section, he subtlety advocates for telling private businesses (tobacco in this case) how much nicotine should be placed in their products to mitigate any potential for kids to become addicted to the product. All this based on one study with mice.
Would you recommend The Tipping Point to your friends? Why or why not?
No. I know this book came out some time ago and it was wildly successful. I really didn't see how this book became so popular. My guess would be it's popularity among those with limited experience in the psychology and behavioral health fields. The data presented are limited and should be scrutinized closely if you choose to read this book.
What three words best describe Malcolm Gladwell’s performance?
Love his voice.
Who do you think would benefit most from listening to The Tipping Point?
Those who would like to improve their critical thinking skills.
Any additional comments?
I was extremely disappointed as I've heard and seen Malcolm Gladwell speak in other venues. He's brilliant and engaging. I was just disappointed when I finally got around to this book.

Simply amazing
Revisado: 09-19-14
What did you love best about The Word of Promise Complete Audio Bible: NKJV?
That it was actually a performance of the Bible and not just a bland reading. The voices, music, and sound effects made for an amazing experience.
Who was your favorite character and why?
For some reason, the voice of the main angel really caught my attention. A very soothing and calm tone that was just engrossing. And it goes without saying. God and Jesus were outstanding.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
Something about a British accent that keeps your attention. His narration was brilliant and flawless.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
While it would have been nice to, it's too long and thought-provoking to consume in one sitting.

Timeless and solid information
Revisado: 07-04-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It's a good foundation for someone trying to make real, lasting change in their lives. Don't be put off by the recordings being decades old. Most of the information can still be applied today. I've mentioned in previous reviews, there are motivational and personal development books. There are differences. Motivational will fire you up for a bit. Personal development will create lasting change. This program is more on the personal development side, which I enjoyed.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Think & Grow Rich - Lectures by Napoleon Hill?
There wasn't any specific moment. Most of it is to the point and easy to understand. I can say I've always appreciated Mr. Hill's voice. I'm not sure everyone would agree with me. There's just something very engaging about it for me.
What does Napoleon Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I really couldn't say because I believe this presentation is only in audio form, with no book being available. But if I had to choose something, again, it would be his voice along with his very simple, succinct delivery. He rarely "wanders off." He just makes his points and moves along.
What did you learn from Think & Grow Rich - Lectures by Napoleon Hill that you would use in your daily life?
That it's not always about money. So many books, and even portions of Mr. Hill's publications, make money such an important goal. While I have no problem with others making that a target, it's just not for me. I appreciate using the information to improve my personal and professional lives.

Fascinating insight into a great leader's mind
Revisado: 06-29-14
What did you love best about The Art of War?
The way the information was broken down. No long, winding explanations of the steps Sun Tzu believed were necessary to be successful. Just small, bite-sized nuggets of insightful information and strategy.
What did you like best about this story?
Appreciating the fact that information in "The Art of War" is still used today, thousands of years later.
Have you listened to any of Mike Borris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I haven't so I can't credibly make any comparisons between his works.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No real extreme reactions. A lot of "wows" when hearing the strategies.
Any additional comments?
I believe this book is a must for those in the cutthroat world of business and athletics. My work is not in those arenas so there aren't a great deal of ideas that I can utilize. It was a fascinating listen nonetheless.

May motivate, but won't significantly develop you.
Revisado: 06-28-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I'm leaning slightly on the 'no' side. While I love Les Brown's story and enthusiasm, there's nothing deep and sustainable here.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Going a little more into what actual steps and actions he took to be successful. What I took away was Les got where he is/was by just passionately speaking with people. God bless him for being able to make a living that way, but most people are looking for actual steps that can take to make lasting, positive change in their lives.
Which character – as performed by Les Brown – was your favorite?
I did appreciate the TD Jakes' story where he said to a group he was brought in to work with, "As soon as I know more than you, you're fired."
Could you see Step Into Your Greatness (Live) being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.
Any additional comments?
It's important to keep in mind there are major differences between motivational and personal development speakers. Les brown may fire you up for a little while. However, someone like Stephen Covey will help you get to more lasting, significant change. So, if you're looking for a little fire and someone instructing you to chant mantras, then this program is for you. But if you're looking for actual "meat on the bone," look elsewhere.
