This series is in a downhill spiral.
Revisado: 03-19-25
The change in the Queen made this book hard to listen to even though she used to be one of my favorite characters. Her habit of getting captured and rescued felt like a lazy rinse & repeat plot twist that occurs every book in this series. The author also continues to forget that this isn’t a romance novel. At least once every chapter a character is dreaming, taking part, and/or talking about sex. It’s hard to recommend this book even if it’s free.

Historia
In the wake of the king's death, war has come to Vordan. The deputies-general have precarious control of the city, but it is led by a zealot who sees traitors in every shadow. Executions have become a grim public spectacle. The new queen, Raesinia Orboan, finds herself nearly powerless as the government tightens its grip and assassins threaten her life. But she did not help free the country from one sort of tyranny to see it fall into another. Placing her trust with steadfast soldier, Marcus D'Ivoire, she sets out to turn the tide of history.

Romance Novel cosplaying as Fantasy Adventure.
Revisado: 03-17-25
The author appears to be having an identity crisis on the genre he wants to be focused on. He cant decide if he wants to write a fantasy adventure or an overly graphic romance novel. Much of the book is centered around the love affair of a transgender and lesbian couple. I think it goes without saying that romance novels are an acquired taste. Also, the author seems obsessed with sex. Literally every couple pages a character is taking part or discussing sexual acts.

Historia
Anyone can plot a coup or fire an assassin's bullet. But in a world of muskets and magic, it takes considerably more to seize the throne. The ailing King of the Vordan lies on his deathbed. When he dies, his daughter, Raesinia Orboan, will become the first Queen Regnant in centuries - and a ripe target for the ambitious men who seek to control her. The most dangerous of these is Duke Orlanko, Minister of Information and master of the secret police.

This was a mixed bag.
Revisado: 03-11-25
This story had potential, but a few items really let the book down.
- The book had several instances of relationships involving teenagers that felt inappropriate and gross.
- The characters let themselves get captured multiple times per book.
- The characters forget to carry weapons multiple times while in danger and/or in active combat zones.
- Somehow no one recognizes the trans character even though the only disguise they are using is switching from a dress to trousers.

A warning of graphic content would have been good in advance so people can avoid this book! This story has a boy getting sexually assaulted multiple times by adult males. This author has a history of sexualizing teenagers in his books and he finally went full out into a pedophile storyline. So disgusting!

Historia
By official accounts, the Navy SEALs of Alpha platoon returned as heroes after their 2017 deployment to Mosul, following a vicious, bloody, and successful campaign to drive ISIS from the city. But within the platoon a different war raged. Even as Alpha’s chief, Eddie Gallagher, was being honored by the Navy for his leadership, several of his men were preparing to report him for war crimes, alleging that he’d stabbed a prisoner in cold blood and taken lethal sniper shots at unarmed civilians.

I’m a retired military officer. This book was an amazing read and should be required reading for young military leaders. The book was well researched and written. It highlights the moral failings of a subculture of Navy SEALs and the impact of their actions.

A disappointing end to a series.
Revisado: 11-12-24
This is a disappointing end to a series that initially started off with some promise. Book 1 was exceptional, but book 2 and 3 were subpar. The main characters are unlikeable, incompetent, and immature. The story has major gaps and is illogical at times. It felt like I was reading a YA book written for readers aged 12–18.

Historia
In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech (CAN) outlined the hardware and software platforms that would one day allow robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and even self-propagate. In the same year, the CBS network re-aired a program about the effects of propranolol on sufferers of extreme trauma. A simple pill, it had been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event. At almost the same moment in humanity’s broad history, mankind discovered the means for bringing about its utter downfall. And the ability to forget it ever happened.

What a depressing story and major let down from Book 1.
Revisado: 11-04-24
The story has some major holes. For example, 1 Senator & 2 Doctors being able to somehow cause a nuclear Armageddon is laughable. The characters are all unlikeable and different levels of evil. The author does his best to advocate for the benefits of a planet wide genocide and the characters conducting it. Makes me wonder what is wrong in his head.

The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.

Revisado: 05-15-23
The first 2 books of this trilogy were amazing. Unfortunately, this book was hard to finish. Long story short, evil wins. The main characters go from being likable morally ambiguous types to evil unlikeable characters. I would skip it his book.

Solid book but not perfect.

I enjoyed this book overall. It’s a good story with interesting characters. The only knock on the book is the large number of characters which makes following the story challenging at times.
