I wish this was twice as long. Everything was well thought out and made me think of things I had never thought of before.

I wondered for a long time if I should give this book three stars or four stars, over all. I did bump it up to four stars because the narration was incredible.
This book is a good mindless summer read. A High fantasy the grabs your attention and really doesn't let go. It isn't long enough for have any real character development, especially since we are dealing with so many characters in such a short book. The magic system is well thought out and I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it.
I do have two major sticking points with this book. The first one is that the religious character is treated like a straw man. She is given stupid lines to say about why she believes in her gods, just so that another character can wittily put her down. This is a rather offensive way to deal with opinions that the author doesn't agree with. The second one is the "native" people who live in the mountains, and how they were depicted. It felt very much like their “primitiveness” was used as justification for their beliefs. It felt to me like it was on the cusp of noble savage and made me feel uncomfortable.
Over all, not bad.

Trigger warnings

It seems silly to have trigger warnings on a horror story. We’re all here because we relish the unexpected. However, I did want to give a warning for the racism in this story. If it were longer, I might have been able to forgive the amount of racist people in this story. But, with the story this short there are only so many people with talking roles, and of those talking roles I felt there was an unnecessarily high percentage of racism, both personal and institutionalized. Along side that I’d also would like to give a warning for police brutality. When I sit down with a horror book I prefer to keep real world horrors to the absolute minimum.

The idea for the story was solid, but I wish there had been more character development. That being said, if you are looking for a quick story with massive amounts of body horror, this is the story for you.

The narrator was amazing. I could just listen to his voice all day.

Every complaint I had about the first book is fixed this time around. I connected more to the characters and I loved watching the world expand. Once again, the narrator was amazing, and even if you don't pick up this book you should look into other books he's narrated. If you like this kind of book, it's worth the credit.

A human's a human, no matter where from
First off, I have to say that Justin James is one of my favorite narrators. I have listened to almost all of his books, and he makes the character voices in ever single book sound genuine and unique. If you don't pick up this book, pick up some of his other stuff.
I was given this book for free in return for a honest review. I know that this book is the third in a series, but this was the first one I read.
I almost never pick up this type of science fiction and that means I am unfamiliar with most of the tropes and pitfalls that come with this genre. I can tell you that there was a steep learning curve. I was not given much time to learn about the character's worlds, or how they had come to be fighting as a freedom fighter/terrorist group. I had to pick up things as best I could as we plowed deep into the story.
I loved the characters in this book. Each one of them seemed like the hero of the story who was perfectly right and just in his convictions, until the point of view changed, and you could see them as the monster every else perceived them to be. In many ways this book is about the fall of a good man who made bad choices because he felt like he had no other choice.
The politics of the story were interesting, but the characters were what kept me reading. If you like science fiction, go ahead and pick this one up.

Let me start out by saying that I do hope to get the next season. However, there are some pretty big issues with this story. I was willing to give it some leeway because it’s a serialization, but it took me until the last half hour or the narrative to really get into it.
I love post-apocalyptic stories almost as much as I love high fantasy. I was sure that the combination would be amazing. However, it wasn’t. We meet the main character in the middle of a wasteland, waking up after being stabbed, and he doesn’t remember who he is. This could have been a really interesting story of survival, like The Road. The problem was, I didn’t relate to the main character enough to care. The main character was not proactive at all. Everything happened to him, rather than him taking charge of his life. Even when he was fighting for his life, he was just a very reactive character.
The learning curve was very steep. I was thrown into the world without a life jacket, or even floaties. If you would like some explanation to what’s going on, you really won’t get one. This upset me, mostly because I didn’t really understand the magic system until halfway through the story. Even then, I didn’t know what the limitations on the magic system were, aka what it could and couldn’t do.
All this being said, I have nothing but good things to say about the narration. Justin James has the voice of an angel. It’s deep and rumbling and over all soothing. He made me care enough to keep going, when I otherwise would have put it down. The reading style wasn’t too slow or too fast, and his diction was on point. Over all fantastic job.
I did get into it at the end, and like I said, I will get the next season. I hope our main character will be a little bit more proactive in that one.

What made the experience of listening to Reboot the most enjoyable?

The narrator was amazing. He is the reason I didn't put the book down.

What could Domino Finn have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Everything seemed to happen to quickly and to easily. It broke my feeling of plausible deniability.
