The series I have been missing!
Revisado: 06-09-24
Such a wonderful, well rounded book. I was born and raised in the south, I still live here. I’ve heard stories about the mistreatment of black in the past, some sadly at the hand of my own family members. It is hard to imagine a world so different, yet similar, to my own. This book makes me even more grateful to live in an era where people have far more understanding that we are all the same where it matters and our differences are beautiful.

I felt like I was there. It is so hard to imagine the level of pain and suffering holocaust victims endured and then to be seperated from the only friends and family they had left is unimaginable. This book made it possible to see the history in a modern light. Excellent read.

This is a book with one of the most lovely and unusual characters ever. This is a must read for anyone who had ever loved an earth-bound angel. Special needs are special gifts and this book shows that through out. This is going to the top of my totem pole of favorites.

Historia
It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Revisado: 12-28-22
It has been a very long time since a book has brought me to tears, yet this one did several times. I've shed happy and sad tears throughout the reading of this book and come away feeling lighter and more peaceful. I recommend the book to the highest degree.

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

1st narrator killed a good deal
Revisado: 11-05-22
The stories would have all been great if I had read instead of listened. I struggled so hard to get past book 1. Living in NC, I listened to names od cities in my state slaughtered. I stuck with it since I went and read the other reviews and saw where it was narrated by different people after book 1. Holy Cow, I don't mean to be mean but just wow! The stories were pretty good, I enjoyed every one do the books after the 1st. My partner is an avid Audibles listener and happen to walk in while I was struggling through book 1 and flipped out. He thought I was joking about it being an Audibles book. I certainly will never listen again, it is a total return. I don't think many people would listen past book 1, even if it were free

It is rare I find a book that literally makes my heart beat fast in my chest but this one did numerous times. I can't believe this book was better than 2 and even better than #1 but it was. I totally recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that is unpredictable and puts you on the edge of your seat. The narrator is also amazing!
