Funny but a little slow at times

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 05-16-07

I enjoyed this book..Nora Ephron is typical Nora Ephron, clever, witty..but suprisingly the book drags on at times. Possibly I'm the wrong demographic for the book..I'm only 35..but it was overall a good read.

Fun historical fiction

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-11-07

I found this book because I was looking for works similar to the Philippa Gregory books (i.e. "The other Boleyn Girl) and I wasn't disappointed. This is similar in subject matter, but unique in style, and I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and narration, and was caught up in the story from beginning to end. I loved learning more about Catherine Parr, a lesser known wife of Henry XIII, and found myself consulting my historical reference book frequently to get some additional facts as it made me curious about the era..I just love historical fiction and this one didn't let me down!

Great mystery

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-30-06

I loved this book..interesting characters..good mystery. The last hour gets a tiny bit slow, but at that point I was so into the book it didn't matter to me. I had some trepidation about it because of the subject matter..but it really isn't about abortion, it is just a good murder mystery. I wish there were more books available by this author.

Limitations Audiolibro Por Scott Turow arte de portada

REALLY dry narration

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-23-06

This is the first time I've wished I read the book instead of listening to it..I like Scott Turow a lot, and I think this was a good book, but the narrator was so flat that he lost me a number of times. I don't understand the choice..maybe they were trying to go for an intellectual, legal sound? Anyway, it didn't work for me.

Definitely deserves best of the year award

Total
5 out of 5 stars

This is an amazing book..the best audio book I've listened to since utilizing the Audible service. Well narrated, moving story, compelling characters, and an important reminder to not take our octogenarians and nonogenarians for granted..what amazing stories are out there that we are missing? I'm so glad I listened to this one!!

Insightful relationship story

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 11-12-06

In the beginning, this book has many parallels to 'memoirs of a geisha', but by the end they are nothing alike in my mind. I really appreciated the writers ability to be so transparent in her description of her characters' psyches and the depth of their relationship. This is really a love story between two friends, and a lot of food for deep psychoanalytical musing, if you are in the mood...

Sweet--interesting psychological insights

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 10-24-06

I enjoyed this novel..the narrator is fantastic, and captures each character perfectly, particularly little William. I found it a bit depressing, but realistic, and appreciated the wise insights into human relationships that the tale provided. All in all, a worthwhile and entertaining read.

Plain Truth Audiolibro Por Jodi Picoult arte de portada

Great book, engaging plot

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 10-18-06

Jodi Picoult does it again, creates a story which has many complex levels of character development, plot twists and ethical dilemnas. I was entertained and challenged, and would have rated this book 5 stars were it not for the narrator whose voice I found annoying at times, and for the court scenes which dragged on a bit in the middle of the book. All in all a great read though, I definitely recommend it.

Good old-fashioned brain-candy-thriller

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 09-23-06

I got what I wanted from this book--nothing too challenging, but a nicely paced medical thriller. I've read Robin Cook before, and this one wasn't one of his best as far as I'm concerned, but I think I got my money's worth, as I was definitely engaged & entertained.

Sweet but slow moving

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-21-06

I really love Fannie Flagg so I was excited to download this one, but was disappointed upon listening..I kept waiting for it to 'suck me in' and nothing really happened until the last 30 minutes. The character development was sweet, and there was some nice humor, and the narrator did a good job; but I think I would have preferred to spend my time on another book, unfortunately :-(
