Historia
Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

Great story and fantastic narration

Really enjoying the story and the primary characters. Worth rating 5 stars but the standout that ensures this rating is the narrator, Steven Pacey. Really brings the story alive.

Cairn has finally gained access to the Sanctum…the birthplace of the infernal’s mystic abilities and proving ground for their adolescents, a place filled to the brim with magic and mystery. The power he needs to solidify a major alliance is close at hand. All he needs to do is settle in and prove himself with the help of old friends and new. Simple enough. Or it would be, if Cairn was the only outsider to breach the Sanctum. When he arrives, he discovers an old enemy has sealed the Sanctum from the inside, holding it ransom. Her demands: “Bring me the head of the usurper.”

Time well spent
Revisado: 12-09-23
One of those time loop stories, he said, it may have come across dismissively because the person reading this review was familiar with the genre and had read a few of these already. Then they blinked and looked again at the page they were about to read. Hadn’t they just done that? There was a sense of deja vu that they were about to experience deja vu. Indeed, yes, there was a sense that this review was different. More, the story was different. It was going to be worth their time. And if it wasn’t, well maybe they could forget this ever happened. Yes, keep telling yourself that.

This is an epic series that would be an essential addition to any “books I must read before I die” list.
Very enjoyable as an audio book, with great narration from both of the voice talent.
Thanks to the entire team for making this so good.

Outstanding in every way
Revisado: 01-23-23
Fantastic story and characters. Well thought out world. Plot lines that weave thriller, intrigue, drama, action and character development together in page turning fashion. Or whatever the audible version of that is. This series is definitely my pick for best in class 2022 and 2023. If you read between the lines in this review: it’s a thumbs up recommendation from me.

Historia
Totalitarianism is not a coincidence and does not form in a vacuum. It arises from a collective psychosis that has followed a predictable script throughout history. In The Psychology of Totalitarianism, world-renowned Professor of Clinical Psychology Mattias Desmet deconstructs the societal conditions that allow this collective psychosis to take hold. By looking at our current situation and identifying the phenomenon of “mass formation”—a type of collective hypnosis—he clearly illustrates how close we are to surrendering to totalitarian regimes.

Concepts worth exploring
Revisado: 08-01-22
Really enjoyed this book. I think this perspective adds a new dimension to political analysis. I also think understanding the tendency for bureaucracy to grow and accrue more control makes this important discussion relevant to consideration for better balances to be set up in our systems. I will listen to this audio book again to think about this in more depth.
This adds a lot more than the 2 or 3 video interviews I watched which was the catalyst for trying the book. Definitely recommended
Good job on narration too. Thanks.

Shocked to the core
Revisado: 06-15-21
I had been put off from reading this book by a couple of bad reviews but tried it out when I’d finished my other stories. Turned out to be a real page turner and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I liked the variety of characters and their all too human failings. I liked the tension and mystery which started off as a slow burn and increased in intensity as the story developed
The only thing I didn’t follow was the times the Kool suits seemed to be breached or unnecessary only to be vital again minutes later.
That is minor to the story though and overall a great story and fantastic voice skills from the narrator.
Looking forward to the next instalment. And don’t believe all the bad reviews. Give this book a chance. It evolves into a gripping sci-fi style adventure-thriller.

Never stop reading
Revisado: 01-21-21
I found the book a little hard to get into but interesting enough to keep going and found myself drawn into the story more and more
Some good twists and turns, aliens, super powers and complicated motivations underpin essentially a story of heroic sacrifice that is our benchmark for our morality.
However, the story only has a handful of momentous events and the bulk of the story is about what happens in between those critical moments. So not an action-packed Hollywood style blockbuster but instead a story that had me coming back constantly to find out how things were going to play out so I finished it in a couple of days in spite of being busy with real life.
The story narrator was excellent and did a great job
I am happy to recommend this book and if you decide to read it, give it a go and get at least as far as the hospital scene, where you will either be on the hook by then or back to Netflix or Amazon Prime.
Now, my download for book two has finished and I need to get back to it.

11 out of 10.
Revisado: 11-10-20
Third book in the series and was a great step change to focus on (slight spoiler) Earl. I really enjoyed the story telling and the vocal narration as well as the story itself.
After the first two books being so amped I was wondering if the excitement would continue and it did in spades. This story also fleshed out the monster world a bit more and it maintained great integrity with the first two books. The story behind Earls Minotaur Hide jacket, for example, was such a great story that added so much to the tapestry of his life and the novel itself.
Highly recommend his book and the series.

Historia
An existence spent being forced to kill others to satiate a Monster. Where the only thing to look forward to was the blessed, if brief, period of time between paying that bribe. Except that very same Monster is and isn’t Rene. It just happened to live inside his own mind and force him to do what it wanted. Rather than being an actual Monster. That was Rene’s entire life until a fateful day changed that. A day that the career as a hitman for hire built on the Monster’s needs will end. Where Rene will be forced to atone for his actions. To be held accountable and judged.

Audible hoped I enjoyed this and I did
Revisado: 08-01-20
WOW. Let’s get the narration out of the way first. That was just about perfect. Fantastic job and gave the story so much life. I will look for other works by the narrator as they make a big impact on the enjoyment level.
The story was also great.
Without trying to give too much away, psycho killer gets a second chance at life. Just not quite in the way he could of imagined.
Luckily, he has a unique set if skills and a unique opportunity to level those skills up to give him increasingly impressive capabilities. So, given all that, can he redeem himself in his ‘second life’ or will he fall back into his old ways?
There were elements of fantasy and gaming and I grew up immersed in that but I would recommend the story to people who don’t necessarily follow these genres too. It was a fun story that held my interest all the way through and maybe I’m getting to be an old softy because there were a few feel good moments in there, making things better for people less fortunate than the wealthy figures that the story centred around. Something to think about, since just about everyone reading this is probably in a position to be generous, in some way, to others.
