Historia
Timothy Snyder has been called “the leading interpreter of our dark times.” As a historian, he has given us startling reinterpretations of political collapse and mass killing. As a public intellectual, he has turned that knowledge toward counsel and prediction, working against authoritarianism here and abroad. His book On Tyranny has inspired millions around the world to fight for freedom. Now, in this tour de force of political philosophy, he helps us see exactly what we’re fighting for.

Way above my head. Temporarily suspending my efforts. also have the paper book. Lovve the author’s expertise on talk shows.
Revisado: 12-20-24
I could not keep up with his names of sources, his philosophies. Did not buy into his criticism of online social media. I continue to admire his thinking but found his book rambling and too autobiographical in spots.

Historia
At the age of 31, Betty Eadie died after routine surgery. The events that followed can only be described as the most profound and extensive near-death experience ever recorded. During the time she was clinically dead, Betty was given knowledge of the afterlife that would make even the greatest skeptic think twice. As she traveled through the spiritual realm, she learned more about the laws and history of the universe than perhaps anyone before her.

Esssentially a cult type book.

Many Biblical references are questionable. Writing is elementary. May be useful to many, but not in synch with my personal world/spiritual views.

Bercovici marries humor and legitimate scientific intrigue, rocketing listeners across nearly 14 billion years and making connections between the essential theories that give us our current understanding of topics as varied as particle physics, plate tectonics, and photosynthesis.

“… in 100 pages should NOT have implied to me that it was written for audience not highly trained in science!”
Revisado: 10-21-24
I own both the paper and the audible copies. Very few illustrations in the paper version. Basic knowledge of scientific terminology would have been useful. I believe there are key insights to be had, -the final pages of the last chapter did sink in for me!-, but the other scientific processes, particularly chemical ones, were lost on me without persistent Googling. I have many scientific timelines and reference materials but had hoped the book would stand alone. I was disappointed.

Historia
Michael is coming undone. Adrift after his wife's departure, he has begun taking himself on long, solitary walks across the English countryside. Becoming ever more reclusive, he’ll do anything to avoid his empty house. Marnie, on the other hand, is stuck. Hiding alone in her London flat, she avoids old friends and any reminders of her rotten, selfish ex-husband. Curled up with a good book, she’s battling the long afternoons of a life that feels like it’s passing her by.

Loved the plot, the bits of geology, inner thoughts. Lyrical writing. I found the audible well-done but the British accent a bit too thick for me to follow with ease. Beside that one difficulty, I highly recommend the book.

As always, Kingsolver delivered masterful story-telling. I found the topic sad, of course. The audible reader was very spot on with the character.

Great information and thoughts about an important concept. Favoritism was referenced and discussed by a scholar. I began reading doubting favoritism but ended with many logical pieces of background information and reasoning.

Historia
Forty-five, recently divorced and a certified hot mess. The last thing Fiona needs to start her vacation is a flooded hotel room and a broken-down car. Alas, that’s what she gets. She’s ready to pack it all in and go home - wherever that is - when her knight in a wet T-shirt strides in to save the day. Jaw-dropping, panty-melting Grant Greene takes the 'mess' out of 'certified hot mess' when he walks up to Fiona and offers her a room to stay. No strings attached. Great, right?

Childlike pronography effort
Revisado: 08-17-23
I thought the beginning of this story very funny. Eventually, however, the sensuality (by then, still mostly what was going on inside the characters’ heads) became predominant and reminded me of teenage talk. I finally decided not to read any more. I rarely give up on a book.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.
