Jasper Fforde's delightfully zany Thursday Next series shows no signs of slowing down with its seventh entry, The Woman Who Died a Lot. Despite being semihappily semi-retired from SpecOps, Thursday accepts the head librarian position at the Swindon library. But soon threats from a supreme Deity, a mnemonomorph, and the nefarious Goliath corporation press Thursday back into active duty.

Wonderfully imaginative and witty- I love this author’s brain. Can’t wait for more. Why is there a 15 word minimum for these reviews? Lame!

Historia
Dorothy Graham is dead, which is inconvenient, not least for her. Luckily, she has planned for this eventuality. Now, if any of the truly dreadful people she is related to want to get their hands on her money, they’re going to have to do so via a fiendish difficult and frankly bizarre competition of Dorothy’s devising. After all, just because you’re dead, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a last laugh at the expense of people who made your life miserable.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 09-25-23
I enjoyed this and have read a few in the series, however, I keep waiting for the main character Thomas to become more interesting. There is a lack of character development here, which would greatly improve the tales. He’s boring and stiff, and after 3 books, I’m afraid it won’t happen. He has not become any closer or more in tune with his job or boss Cyrus. With his background there is a wealth of possibilities to be a much more interesting character and contribute to the story.

Biiiiig stretches in ‘logic’
Revisado: 11-22-22
It makes sense that the author sounds defensive, his effort to make the non-scientifically-proven out to be ‘facts’ is impressive. Dodgy wording doesn’t make up for the lack of actual facts.

When the work of art is stolen under impossible circumstances, Dorian must use his “little gray cells” — not to mention his culinary skills — to solve the crime and discover the true origins of where he came from.

Series over-written, over-described, over-rated
Revisado: 07-09-22
The premise is great, I’d love these books if they were better written. The language is so prissy and un-natural, mundane things are over-described to an intolerable degree. The narrator speaks so carefully the natural cadence is gone and it sounds flat. There is little effort to make key ideas believable, or the main character interesting, she’s boring and predictable as can be. Zoe is supposed to be hundreds of years old, but seems shallow, immature and naive. Such a bummer, had potential.

Historia
In "Radical Chic", Wolfe focuses primarily on one symbolic event: a gathering of the politically correct at Leonard Bernstein’s duplex apartment on Park Avenue to meet spokesmen of the Black Panther Party. He re-creates the incongruous scene - and its astonishing repercussions - with high fidelity. In the companion essay, Wolfe travels west to San Francisco to survey another meeting-ground between militant minorities and the liberal white establishment. "Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers" deals with the newly emerging art of confrontation, as practiced by San Francisco’s militant minorities.

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.
