Historia
In this timely, personal guide, Mónica, the chief storyteller for the national cross-partisan depolarization organization Braver Angels, takes you to the real front lines of a crisis that threatens to grind America to a halt - broken conversations among confounded people. She shows you how to overcome the fear and certainty that surround us to finally do what only seems impossible: understand and even learn from people in your life whose whole worldview is different from or even opposed to yours.

If we want to make Americans comfortable talking to each other, we need more people to read this. And if we can’t get comfortable talking to each other, I don’t know how we will improve public policy. This book couldn’t be more wholesome and good-hearted.

Historia
In this riveting, accessible work of science, Charles Mann takes us on an enthralling journey of scientific exploration. We learn that the Indian development of modern corn was one of the most complex feats of genetic engineering ever performed. That the Great Plains are a third smaller today than they were in 1700 because the Indians who maintained them by burning died. And that the Amazon rain forest may be largely a human artifact.

One star for not making it clear that this was abridged
Revisado: 01-10-20
I did not want an abridged version of this book but couldn’t find an indication at it was at the time of purchase. The narrative is choppy in this abridged version and now that I own it I can see that, yes there is, another longer version. But that one. This story is worth the time. I am very frustrated that Audible does not make this difference clear anymore.

Sequence is weird—obvious technical issue
Revisado: 08-30-19
It goes from a lesson about going to the store to some random vocabulary about haircuts where the “going to the store” review should be and then does a partial lesson review and abruptly ends. This is inconsistent with the (lengthy) program description at the beginning and the way other lessons are formatted.

A comforting and funny plunge into the ridiculous.
Revisado: 11-17-15
Who was your favorite character and why?
Zaphod Beeblebrox. He is so hip he can't see over his pelvis.
What about Douglas Adams’s performance did you like?
Perfect british straight man.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Ignore the film. The audiobook is where it's at.
Any additional comments?
Whenever I am particularly stressed I turn to this book. As soon as I hear Adams say "Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun." I begin to feel better. I am ready to see humor in the futility insignificance of everying we humans do--which under normal circumstances I would find stressful.

Outdoorsy Levity
Revisado: 11-17-15
What did you like best about this story?
Both the author's initial naivety and his extensive though judiciously applied research on the history, flora and fauna and geology of the Appalachian Trail and through hiking practices/etiquette balance the humor in this book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several fits of laughter in this book. His irrational nighttime fears and his friend's blasé reactions stand out.

painfully cheezy
Revisado: 04-17-12
Imagine a really bad musical performed by 3 actors from children's programming with a very low quality synthesizer. Most of them made me laugh, but some of the lessons made me cringe. My partner banned it from playing within earshot in the first 3 minutes. I gave it a chance. I think it was helpful, but it was an unpleasant experience.

This greatly improved my Spanish communication.
Revisado: 04-17-12
This really worked for me. I used it to brush up on Spanish before traveling to Central America. I had studied Spanish in school but never felt comfortable speaking. It seemed overly simple. However I followed the directions exactly. I was shocked at how effective it was. I had the confidence to speak in situations that would have caused me to grapple for words in the past. Successive units quickly add terms and expressions but the pace is amazingly manageable.

Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Al Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

Revisado: 11-27-03
It didn't tell me a whole lot I didn't already know, but said it in such an entertaining way that I would rather have heard it from Al Franken anyway. This book owes much to previous work done by other authors and journalists. I think it could even be quoting Eric Alterman's slightly earlier book "What Liberal Media" on many occasions (an excellent no-nonsense book). I really loved the results, and I play bits for other people every chance I get. Don't deprive yourself of this one!

He is the scourge of Stupid White Men everywhere. He's taken on fat cats, gun nuts, lying politicians. The Guardian describes him as "a wake-up call, a kick in the mental backside". And now Michael Moore is back, daring to ask the most urgent question of these perilous times: Dude, Where's My Country?

Moore's best work so far.
Revisado: 11-27-03
I found this book more articulate and informative than Stupid White Men, and not very bitter at all considering how consistently the Bush Administration, and most of the rest of our elected officials have let us down on nearly every issue since 2000. Actually he sounds a lot more positive than the majority of current events books lately. The first chapter had me laughing out loud.
My only compliant is that Michael Moore does not narrate his audio books and is a better comic speaker than those who disappointingly did the audio versions of his last two books, they are better off in print. I saw him live last month, and believe me, it is funnier coming from him.
If you can't understand his perspective try reading The Best Democracy Money Can Buy (new American Edition), Bushwhacked!, and Toxic Sludge is Good For You, these are a little more serious and will enrage you, then read Pigs at the Trough, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, and Dude Where's My Country over again-Funny and uplifting!
