Joan Hickson should do them all.
Revisado: 08-07-21
No offense to the other narrator, but Joan Hickson is the best Miss Marple and her narrations are the best by far.

Historia
Shuggie’s mother Agnes walks a wayward path: She is Shuggie’s guiding light but a burden for him and his siblings. She dreams of a house with its own front door while she flicks through the pages of the Freemans catalogue, ordering a little happiness on credit, anything to brighten up her grey life. Married to a philandering taxi-driver husband, Agnes keeps her pride by looking good - her beehive, make-up, and pearly-white false teeth offer a glamourous image of a Glaswegian Elizabeth Taylor.

Unoriginal, with a Monstrous Ending
Revisado: 12-30-20
Nothing particularly new or interesting to see here. The ending, which is supposed to be heartfelt, is actually quite monstrous and ruins everything that came before.
The only redeeming part of the story is the narrator, whose voice is quite a pleasure.

Historia
Enjoy the first novels that brought the world two of Agatha Christies’ most enduring detectives: Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. The Murder at the Vicarage is the first Miss Marple mystery, one which tests all her powers of observation and deduction. In The Mysterious Affair at Styles, Captain Arthur Hastings, invalided in the Great War, is recuperating as a guest of John Cavendish at Styles Court, the "country-place" of John's autocratic old aunt, Emily Inglethorpe.

Strange choice for a narrator

Excellent Narration, Good Stories
Revisado: 10-23-19
Joan Hickson and Hugh Fraser are excellent narrators who deliver their performance with interest and complexity.
If you’ve already seen the Marple and Poirot movies/TV shows starring them, it can be a little disconcerting hearing them play characters other than their own—but that only lasts for the first chapter or so.
The stories themselves are perfectly fun. Not the best Marple or Poirot stories out there, but still well worth spending the time.

Historia
In one of London's most elegant shops, a decorative doll in green velvet adopts some rather human, and sinister, traits.... A country gentleman is questioned about a murder that has yet to be committed.... While summoning spirits, a medium is drawn closer to the world of the dead than she ever imagined possible.... In a small country church, a dying man's last word, sanctuary, becomes both an elegy and a clue to a crime.

Mixed - Half Excellent, Half Mediocre
Revisado: 10-23-19
Narration quality is all excellent, but some of the stories themselves are just dumb. The one about the doll and the one about the medium are boring, but the rest are very good.
There are other, better, and longer collections with the same excellent narrators, but this will do once those are finished.

Poor narration for clunky story.
Revisado: 04-19-18
This book has a lot of great ideas—unfortunately it only dedicates about 10% of the story to the good ideas and 90% on inconsequential, small-scale drama.
The narrator is also awful. He gives all the characters terrible foreign accents that manage to all sound exactly the same, so that when a group is having a conversation, you never know who’s actually speaking.
Don’t waste 30 hours on this.
