Narration jarring

Story and setting very entertaining but narration would randomly switch tone and tempo like the main character was possessed. Hoping the next book does not have the same problem.

Can’t put it down

This series is terrible for those of us lacking the discipline to put books down… forget about sleep or chores. Love the characters and action. I need to ration these books out more.

There are so many twists and turns in this plot that I couldn’t stop until I finished. I don’t want to inadvertently spoil anything. As a decades long mystery reader, this is a standout.

The magic continues
Revisado: 08-14-23
When I find a series I enjoy, I typically plough through everything ever written, but rarely have I read so many books by a single author that keep me begging for more. After a while the books lose some of that something special that makes the series so appealing, but that is not true in this case! Once again, this is a book that really gets the heart racing, and I am already eagerly anticipating the next one.

Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

Addendum

FYI I noticed in another review that the person did not listen to the author notes at the end. She did live in Africa, with parents who were providing medical services, not religious…the writing certainly seemed to have been crafted by someone with actual experience… very colorful and rich.

Love the Carsingtons
Revisado: 01-31-23
I have listened to this series numerous times, and each time I laugh out loud, and thoroughly enjoy it. These are my go-to books for fun, when I have had enough of the drama and tension of other books, and I want a truly feel-good experience with engaging characters and dialogue. Best read in order, the first time at least, but not necessary.

Simultaneously beautiful and dark
Revisado: 01-28-23
There is something inherent in Irish literature that makes it rich in detail and very lyrical, all while telling a pretty dark story. Not all dark, but very engrossing and well worth a listen.

Kind of a sequel
Revisado: 01-23-23
When I started this book I was disturbed because it didn’t seem to follow Children of Earth and Sky, but thankfully I was wrong. It is more a contemporaneous story, involving characters introduced in the other book, not specifically a sequel, but related. Excellent world building and characters, with a hint of supernatural.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Revisado: 01-12-23
First of all, the narration is spot on. Marcellus is truly remarkable. I laughed every time he would introduce his chapters. The mystery was intriguing as well, and all the characters were nicely developed, so that the interplay amongst them was highly entertaining. Definitely 5 stars all around.

The story is awesome, and probably qualifies as a stand alone, however I wish I had read this BEFORE I read Children of earth and sky…it is a little difficult to decide on a reading order with his books, but they’re all fantastic tales.
