A little Spoiler warning: I deeply enjoyed this saga and the performance with varying accents made this spellbinding. It changed greatly with the last two books when I noticed changes to the voices. it didn't grab me the same way and irritated me at times when I had to mentally paste how the voices should have sounded. I have mixed feelings on how the story ended after all the build up and a blanketed happy ending. It is kind of hard to be invested with major time skips. I plan to go through this once more and see how I feel.

The main character does a complete 180° and it's just not done gradually either, it makes no sense with how adamantly she states her fear, distrust, and hatred of Ash only to be like oh... I'm one so they're okay now.

a spellbinding rollercoaster with some twists I saw coming and others I didn't but masterfully concealed and seem obvious now in retrospect. I love the growth of characters and yet they stay the same. it was an enjoyable experience!

I wanted more story development for Elaine, she was the most interesting focal point and it seems later books won't be about her. it ended in... well everyone loses sort of way. I would have liked the story to he fleshed out better. i want to know how nobody noticed before hand of the weird mutations until the resurrection failure. noone looked at all... seriously? story was good but to me is unfinished.

I enjoyed the book but disliked Hawk's voice...

hawk's voice made me think of old rotten tooth and filthy pirate instead the devilish rogue portrayed on the cover. I envisioned deep and smooth voice to go with that cover image. the fact Hawk was at least old enough to be his father was kind of a roadblock but the writing made up for it and the eyebrow waggling scenes definitely helped too.

I liked it but also didn't. it could have a bit more focus on the whole omg the world is going to burn because the veil is sealed. the whole drama of the boys could be handled various ways. the boys could actively court her to sway her to a more singular preference. they could just hold their collective horses until school is done or until the world wasn't at stake. their priorities are so off it's aggravating. yes I know their teens but given their collective experience this far... they should know better. personally I would pick Miles. he's calm and sensible and looks beyond the immediate emotional response that flairS the situation to even worse levels. and I just loved when he decided to finally kiss her. swoon. so yeah... idk if I'll keep on this series.
