Cloying & Repetitive
Revisado: 11-05-24
Honestly, I like happy Hallmarkish stories with predictable plots as much or more than the next guy. But this is a ridiculous dance of miscommunication on the order of Anthony Trollope — the problem is that the author isn’t trying for parody or irony. I kept thinking that if these moaning martyrs would just talk to each other instead of themselves, this book would be half the length that it is.
And the ending – – good God, the ending – – Was so annoyingly sweet That I’ve got cavities in at least three teeth now, and likely some level of diabetes. The author needs to understand that we don’t read to enter perfect worlds but rather interesting ones where we might learn some thing of human nature.

I kept thinking that some unexpected plot twist would happen - nope. And the last 30 mins should just be chopped off. Juvenile. Like a bad Nancy Drew Mystery. Trite beyond belief.

SOS Audio needs SERIOUS adjustment
Revisado: 05-06-24
Story was great and performance was generally very good but the narrator goes from whispering as the narrator to SHOUTING as character dialogues. As a result you’ll find yourself constantly raising and lowering the volume. Sounds like it’s not a deal breaker but it’s a serious issue for most or the book. A real shame which could be easily fixed by a post production sound technician!

Historia
It's been over a decade since Nora left her hometown of Scupper Island, Maine, and very seldom looked back. She's carved out a successful life in Boston, where no one knows her as the awkward girl with the delinquent sister and the dad who left, but a not-as-dramatic-as-it-sounds brush with death has her taking stock of her life. Inspired to reconnect with her prickly mother and snarky teenage niece, Nora returns home for the summer, where she's forced to face the people she's spent the last ten years trying to avoid.

Narration EXCRUCIATING
Revisado: 06-05-23
Thank God this was a freebie. The narrator swallows the end of every sentence, giving every single line (most characters included) with an undertone of wither sarcasm, self-pity or annoyance. Her INCESSANT MOANING makes you wish the truck accident in the opening chapter HAD killed her.
Unlistenable.

Surprising, Engaging, and Best- Inspiring
Revisado: 05-04-23
I’ve read Dr. Scheiner’s other works, and loved them, but this book is a breed apart. He shares the fascinating experiences of a privileged life with a sincerely and humility that seems nearly unaware of their rarity. Once the reader is immersed in each chapter, the author manages to point to a parable-like lesson he’s found in each which illustrates over and again the universality of our experiences once we look beyond the circumstances which dress them.
The pulsing message throughout is a sense of unity and safety. We are all one, and where we find ourselves is where we are meant to be.
In that security, he seems to direct us to seek the light and love in ourselves, and finding it, let it direct our lives.
Amazing and inspiring.

Historia
The House of Mirth was Edith Wharton's first great novel. Set among the elegant brownstones of New York City and opulent country houses like gracious Bellomont on the Hudson, the novel creates a satiric portrayal of what Wharton herself called "a society of irresponsible pleasure-seekers" with a precision comparable to that of Proust.

Amazing Narration of a Classic
Revisado: 02-18-23
While there was a certain lack of vocal regionality which would’ve given greater depth to some (especially male) characterizations, the emotional and tonal range be of the narrator and her incredible timing gives this challenging classic a completely nuanced interpretation than I’ve ever heard it given.

Disturbingly BAD - RUN AWAY!
Revisado: 12-17-21
I don’t know which is worse, the flat, lifeless, robotic delivery of the narrator, or the cloying, syrup-laden writing. The author plods through every single trite, overused seasonal sentiment and platitude as though we haven’t already heard them ad nauseam.
The Christmas miracle here would be if anyone would be able to remain conscious through the excruciathon that is this preachy, holier-than-thou, torture chamber of a book.

An Important Lesson
Revisado: 09-20-21
I have nearly 480 audiobooks in my library and there is a truth that all live by almost as a law of nature. The quality of the narration can elevate or decimate a book in this medium. This book is an unfortunate example of the latter.
Authors need to respect the profession, skill, and craft of narration. I’m sure the author here feels the words she speaks to the depths of her soul, but her vocal dysmorphia stops her from realizing that she’s reduced her work to a nearly intolerable droning.
I can barely speak to the content for the grating, discordant delivery of the narration.

Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

I’ve listened to 445 Audible books and never felt the need to write a review until now. Please don’t miss this one!!
Bit of a slow start, but NO LIE I’ve listened to it at least seven times and I learn more and laugh more each time. I was not a particular fan of Tina Fey, I had never watched 30 Rock, and I didn’t really remember her from SNL… The book was recommended by a friend. All I can say is common sense GENIUS delivered by an amazingly agile mind regardless of your politics.
