Historia
What’s a sweets-loving young boy growing up gay in North Carolina in the '80s supposed to think when he’s diagnosed with type-1 diabetes? That God is punishing him, naturally. This was, after all, when gay-hating Jesse Helms was his senator, AIDS was still the boogeyman, and no one was saying, "It gets better." And if stealing a copy of a gay porno magazine from the newsagent was a sin, then surely what the men inside were doing to one another was much worse. Sweet Tooth is Tim Anderson’s uproarious memoir of life after his hormones and blood sugar both went berserk.

Me too!
Revisado: 10-24-23
Though I’m just 3-4 years younger & was diagnosed at age 7 instead of early teens, this story was almost exactly my story. I remember going & getting glucometers that didn’t have test strips that had to be wiped, remember when they took less time than before, the pain of hitting the same place on my finger twice, getting brand new insulins that are supposed to help better, doing shots/checking bg while driving, having to spend 1$/ strip & whining about it as a defense for my poor self care, coming out to friends, family, and the guilt of my diabetic problems’ burdens on my family & friends & worrying no man would ever want me because of it. Growing up in church & all the parts that make you feel like you did something wrong to have it happen to me with my naive mind (because of the people, not the old text). Getting stuck somewhere without sugar & the mortal fear that comes with it, and the mortal social terror of asking strangers to help, the apologies after coming out of a low bg while coming-to… etc. I even recall the clubs & popular music of the time & feelings of trying to fit in, find love, etc.
now I’m a (relatively) successful adult in good control of my diabetes due to tech advances, happily, gayly married in my first purchased home with my husband who knows what to do if I have an ‘episode’ (few and far-between), and I guess it’s because of the wisdom that comes with age.
Thanks for the book. The reading was humorous & engaging, and the inside knowledge of the author made it so authentic to me. (Diabetes topic and gay in the 80s-90s topic) Made me laugh and shed a lil tear for the younger me.
All good stories should engage & this one did that for me.
I even remember diabetes camp!
Great job!

I heart fantasy and gay romance combo!
Revisado: 11-29-17
I’ve loved fantasy since I was a middle-school kid. It’s what turned me into an avid reader.
Now that I’m 40 & have been an avid reader ever since, who knew this past year would have brought me to gay romance novels?
Thinking myself above romance many years ago, I never would-have; but I have to say it really shouldn’t be surprising, given the homo-normative feelings they engender in me, and isn’t that just a breath of fresh air to my soul?
Having read / listened to so much over the years, I’m quite stunned to have stumbled upon this diamond. (Not just a gem - a diamond!)
Not only is this series a fantastic romantic-comedy, it’s an epic tale of fantasy in such a richly created fantasy world. Additionally - it’s probably the best narrated epic fantasy gay romance novel series that will ever be created!
I loved the first one, the second, and can’t wait for the next one from this made-in-heaven author/narrator duo. (Plus sound effects tastefully applied!)
Keep them coming please!

Historia
Do you believe in love at first sight? Sanford Stewart sure doesn't. In fact, he pretty much believes in the exact opposite, thanks to the Homo Jock King. It seems Darren Mayne lives for nothing more than to create chaos in Sandy's perfectly ordered life, just for the hell of it. Sandy despises him, and nothing will ever change his mind. Or so he tells himself.

If you want a totally sweet, romantic, full-of-intelligent-made-to-feel-mindless humor, written-like-a-sitcom-and-should-be-made-into-a-3-season-series book, especially with this narrator, then this is a great series to listen to. Totally worth every penny because this shiznit is priceless. I love every single character... time to start book 3. Excuse me.

Historia
High in the crumbling Palace of Statues, oily Vox Verlix - nominally the Most High Academe but no more than a prisoner in reality - is brewing a terrible plot to destroy the goblins and the shrykes at a stroke, leaving him free to take over once again. Rook Barkwater, a young librarian knight, stumbles upon the truth when he is taken captive and forced to work for Vox. But can Rook foil Vox's plan and save the lives of his librarian colleagues?

Abridged?!?!?! Why?!
Revisado: 02-16-17
I love the stories in this collection.
But...
Why even bother with abridged versions?
Excellent world, excellent predecessor novels and trilogies...
excellent narrator....
Halfway decent abridge-er... but abridgement SUCKS THE LIFE OUT OF THESE WORLDS!!
WHERE ARE THE IMPORTANT DRAMA-ADDING DETAILS?!?!
Abridged subsequent tales after such amazing tales presented in their complete states?!?!
Lacking...
Half-assed...
Teasing...
...but not enough to convince me to pay for the full versions if they come out later.
I could have been a lifelong fan, (probably will be - but from a different source), these stories are Tolkien-equivalent-worthy! Robert-Jordan-worthy... but some idiot talked them into publishing ABRIDGED versions!!!
Makes EVERYTHING incomplete and takes the LIFE out of the stories. Makes everything DISCONNECTED!!!
I'm stopping HERE!!
Maybe 10 years from now when I'm not angry at AUDIBLE.COM for providing SOME of the tales in their complete states, and the later tales in disjointed half-story-states (aka ABRIDGED!) I might try again and these authors and the brilliant narrator might be worth my adoration- but as of now, the abridged versions are just pissing me off!
I'm DONE!!
No more edge chronicles until you provide COMPLETE versions.
THEY ARE WORTH PUBLISHING!!!
Whoever decided to do abridged versions should be fired!
...DAMMIT!!!
Get the whole things- narrated by the same narrator...
...PRONTO!!!

Historia
It's 1986, and what should have been the greatest summer of Nate Bradford's life goes sour when his parents suddenly divorce. Now, instead of spending his senior year in his hometown of Austin, Texas, he's living with his father in Warren, Wyoming, population 2,833 (and Nate thinks that might be a generous estimate). There's no swimming pool, no tennis team, no mall - not even any MTV.

Feels so familiar
Revisado: 12-05-16
I grew up in the 80s & wish I was as self aware as these two. But more to the point, I remember all of this, all these emotions, the world in general making me think I need to hide myself for sure even though I didn't even have myself figured out yet, the AIDS epidemic on the news everywhere and SF being so close to me it was hot here & made me feel different and doomed for it.
Love this book. Never thought I'd have a romance novel on my list of favorites.

Historia
Karigan G’ladheon, running away from school, is traveling through a deep forest when a galloping horse pounds up to her, its rider impaled by two black-shafted arrows. With his dying breath, he tells her he is a Green Rider, one of the magical messengers of the King. Before he dies, he makes Karigan swear to deliver the message he’s carrying, and gives her his green coat, with the symbolic brooch of his office.

Great book
Revisado: 04-23-15
Didn't grab me heart and soul in a way that I'll remember forever like a few rare finds, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the book. Loved how all the loose ends got tied up, how all the little themes introduced along the way evolved regularly and naturally. I also loved the many similarities with other fantasies that instead of making it run-of-the-mill, simply tied it in with the rest of the genre and made it more imaginable. I'll be reading the sequels.

Historia
For years now, readers of the Russell Memoirs have wondered about the tantalizing mentions of Japan. Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes had spent three weeks there, between India ( The Game) and San Francisco ( Locked Rooms). The time has finally come to tell that story. It is 1925, and Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes arrive home to find...a stone. A stone with a name, which they last saw in the Tokyo garden of the future emperor of Japan.

Worth my money and my time as always.
Revisado: 03-16-15
I started by listening to the beekeepers apprentice which I had previously already read. I have not been disappointed with nearly any of these novels in the series. This latest one has Jenny Sterling narrating and she always does a fabulous job. I also like the way the story starts out, how it proceeds, and how it ends. I've always wondered when Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell we're not going to be the top dogs in every way anymore.
